Safety First! Scappoose Police Connect with Students
A big thank you to the Scappoose Police Department for visiting Otto Petersen Elementary, Scappoose Middle School, and Scappoose High School to share important safety reminders with students! Officers discussed e-bike safety, including responsible, legal riding rules and habits, as well as important ways to stay safe. With many students potentially participating in trick-or-treating, they also shared helpful tips for staying safe while enjoying the holiday festivities.
We appreciate our partnership with Scappoose Police and their commitment to keeping our students and community safe. Thank you for taking the time to connect with our students and share these valuable reminders!
History Comes to Life in 8th Grade Social Studies!
Scappoose Middle School’s 8th-grade social studies students stepped back in time as they participated in a simulation of the First Continental Congress! Students took on the roles of historical delegates, researched historical facts, and brought history to life by recreating the conversations and debates that helped shape our nation's future. This hands-on learning experience gave students a unique opportunity to explore different perspectives, practice critical thinking, and experience an important moment in American history!
Fourth Graders Explore Lelooska Cultural Center!
OPE fourth graders recently enjoyed a fascinating field trip to the Lelooska Cultural Center, where they explored the rich history, art, and traditions of Indigenous Peoples of the Northwest Coast! Students visited the ceremonial house, learned about the importance of salmon and cedar, and discovered the significance of traditional carvings, masks, and button blankets. They also got a behind-the-scenes look at how ceremonial masks are created and used, heard traditional stories, and explored the Lelooska Museum's collection of art and artifacts. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that brought history and culture to life!
Sparking a Love for Reading and Fire Safety at Grant Watts!
Grant Watts second graders had some special visitors this week! Members of the Scappoose Fire District stopped by classrooms to read Fire! ¡Fuego!, a bilingual book in English and Spanish, and share important lessons about fire safety. Students enjoyed listening to the story while learning valuable reminders about staying safe around fire. A big thank you to Scappoose Fire District for taking the time to visit our classrooms, connect with students, and make fire safety education fun and engaging!

Supporting Your Student’s Health and Well-Being
At Scappoose School District, we believe families play an important role in supporting students as they develop the knowledge, skills, and healthy habits they need to thrive. As part of this commitment, our district uses an adopted K–6 Health curriculum designed to provide students with age-appropriate learning experiences that support their physical, social-emotional, and overall well-being.
We know that families may have questions about what students are learning in health class and how these topics are addressed at different grade levels. We want you to have access to the same resources our teachers use so you can better understand the curriculum, preview learning materials, and engage in conversations with your student at home.
Below, you will find resources related to our adopted K–6 Health curriculum, including information about the curriculum, grade-level learning, and materials students may encounter throughout the school year. We encourage you to explore these resources and use them as a starting point for conversations with your child.
Health education is most meaningful when schools and families work together. If you have questions about the curriculum or would like additional information about what your student will be learning, please reach out to your child’s teacher or school administrator. We appreciate your partnership in helping our students develop the knowledge, skills, confidence, and healthy habits they need to be successful.

2026-2027 SSD Bus Routes
A quick reminder: We start off assuming that ALL students will be riding the bus unless families tell us otherwise. So, please take a moment to log in to ParentVUE and update your information, including whether your student will be using our bus services.
We know that pick-up and drop-off times are important and our transportation partner, First Student, does its best to create route timetables that correlate with parent/guardian information in ParentVUE.
PLEASE NOTE: Timetables are subject to change slightly as we move forward through the first few weeks of school as additional students are added or removed as bus riders. We will communicate those changes as we receive the updates.
Wednesday/early release routes: for PM times on Wednesdays, you can subtract one hour from the PM schedule.
FirstView 1.0 Bus Tracking: If you are interested in the FirstView 1.0 Bus Tracking App, please navigate to our district webpage HERE for more information.
If you have questions about pick-up or drop-off locations, please contact First Student at 971-290-4020.
