PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

As I write this, the 2026 Puppy Picnic is now behind us. What a wonderful event it turned out to be. We once again held it at the Lawrenceville Kennel Club's training center. We hosted eye and heart clinics at $55 each and had several people bring non-cavaliers to take advantage of this great pricing. We had Canine Good Citizen (CGC) and Trick Dog judging that resulted in 3 dogs earning their CGC title and 2 dogs earning Trick Dog titles. We followed that up with a Fun Match, a Ballon Dog Match and ended the day with several fun competitions including biggest eyes, fastest cookie eater, pole weave, etc. We also had more food than we could eat with several folks taking extras home with them.

We are now focused with wrapping up preparations for the May specialty in Perry, GA with 4 all-breed shows and 2 specialties followed up closely by our normal Winter Specialty in Atlanta, GA in June also featuring 4 all-breed shows and 2 specialties. Remember, the Winter Specialty was moved from February to June this year only due to a conflict with Westminster. Please plan on joining us at both shows.

We will also have a puppy social in the summer at Paula Ayers' house that we are wrapping up planning for and establishing a firm date that I hope to see everybody at.

Keep safe and it looks like spring is fast arriving.

President

MARCH PUPPY PICNIC

We had a blast at our Spring Puppy Picnic held on March 15 at the Lawrenceville KC Training Facility. We had heart and eye health clinics - lots of cavaliers were tested in addition to some other breeds that attended. We had amazing food, as usual - we know how to provide way more food than anyone could possibly eat! Ashley Powell evaluated multiple dogs for Canine Good Citizens and Trick Dog titles. Then Susan Green judged both our Fun Match and our fun contests, including our annual balloon dog competition. This year Jim added multiple complicating factors to the balloon dog show: he blew up one balloon dog and created a wind tunnel for everyone in the ring. Spoiler alert: the dead balloon dog didn't seem to struggle with the wind tunnel - maybe it was the fact that it was being handled by Paula, or that it had been stuffed with paper towels by Susan - who's to know? A great time was had by all - even the dead balloon dog!

A HUGE thanks to the following people for volunteering and helping at our puppy picnic:

Sharon Utych, Jim Utych, Beth Pedersen, Victoria Babcock, Jessica Hillman, LaVada McCosh, Linda Whitmire, Ashley & Carolyn Powell. From set up to clean up, your helping hands made light the work! The Club appreciates you!

JUNE SPECIALTY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

We need our club members support to provide a great June Specialty weekend in Atlanta! (Remember this is typically our February show, moved for just 2026 to June).

Can you donate a raffle basket? Our basket raffle at the show is becoming quite popular at the Cluster! It can be almost any type of basket/item, not necessarily cavalier related. Some of the past great baskets were Wine and Cheese/Cracker basket, Jam and Jelly basket, Whelping basket, basket of snoods, any type of food or alcohol basket, a pet bed filled with toys and goodies, and we even had a whelping box from ez whelp one year!

This year we have already donated a flat panel TV and “Lamb Chop” Lambie dog bed filled with “stuff”! If you can contribute, please let Ashley Powell know so we can keep track of how many baskets we will have and hopefully not a lot of duplicates!

Also, we always thank our exhibitors by giving them a nice exhibitor bag. This year it is insulated zipped lunch tote and we plan to fill it with some items. We make 60 bags, so if you can donate an item of 60 and have them to Ashley and Carolyn Powell before the Specialty show it would be appreciated. So far, we have people committed to pens with the club logo, note pads, peanut butter crackers. We would like to also have donations for water, poop bags, a snack item (like granola bar, popcorn, chips, etc.), a dog treat or anything else you would like to donate.

Lastly, if you would like to donate a prize for the first-place class winners on Saturday and/or Sunday, it would be appreciated. We would need 28 items for Saturday and 28 items for Sunday. Typically, we have handed out a dog toy or a small drying towel, but any nice items would be greatly appreciated, and your donations would be recognized ring side.

Nancy Jackfert - Almeara Barley Fields of Gold FCAT SWN THDN RATN CGCA CGCU TKI

Barley has been having so much fun sniffing, running, and being an all around amazing Cavalier. In February he traveled to Florida to participate in his first Scent Work trials. He did fantastic earning 3 Q's, with a title in each element (Containers:SCN, Interiors:SIN, Exteriors:SEN, and Buried:SBN) in 3 days....12 for 12 to earn his overall Novice SWN Title.

In March, Barley has been working towards his FCAT2 that he hopes to earn at ACKCSC Nationals in April. He has added running the Coursing Ability Test (CAT) to his list of sports and earned his CA Title at the Newnan Kennel Club event.

As everyone knows, Cavaliers have the best and most amazing Temperament. Barley passed both tests and added the AKC Temperament Title to his name at the Newnan Kennel Club Event.

Time to take a vacation to TN for more fun at the ACKCSC Nationals.
