Chess Team Excels at IHSA State Tournament! Chess Team Excels at IHSA State Tournament!

HF's Chess Team showcased their strategic prowess and sportsmanship at the IHSA State Chess Tournament last weekend, securing an impressive 39th Place out of 120 competing schools! Their commendable record of 4-3 reflects the dedication and resilience they exhibited throughout the tournament.

"The Varsity Chess Team is a formidable group of individuals who worked together to achieve this success," said Chess Team Sponsor Mrs. Tiffany White. "Each member played a crucial role in contributing to the team's success." The Varsity Team includes Seniors Matthew Lively and Elijah Burr; Juniors Mathew Brison, Everett VanTil, Lyndon Proby, and Jacob Roe; Sophomores Maurice Moore and SA Davis; and Freshmen Mahki Fox, Jacob Bonilla and Cleveland Galloway.

A special shout-out goes to Freshman Makhi Fox, who brought home a gold medal by going undefeated in all of his matches. "Makhi's remarkable achievement is a testament to his talent and determination, setting a high standard for future competitions," said Mrs. White.

This accomplishment not only reflects the skill and dedication of our chess team but also highlights the positive and supportive spirit within our school community. We are immensely proud!

Sophomores & Juniors: Don't Miss These College Visits Sophomores & Juniors: Don't Miss These College Visits

The Guidance Office is hosting college reps visiting with our students during the spring semester!

Please have your child log onto SchooLinks to register. Once logged in (they log in with their HF Gmail account), they will simply click on "School Events", where they will see the list of colleges signed up. They can click on the college that they are interested in visiting. After that, click on "register for this event", and that's it!

Please have your child make sure that they discuss this with their teacher whose class they're missing and ask for a pass for the day they will be meeting with the college rep. We begin this semester with Morgan State, an HBCU located in Baltimore, Maryland, visiting tomorrow, Thursday, February 15 at 1:55pm (during 7th Period).

Please know that visiting with college reps is a privilege, not a right, and your teacher has the discrepancy to say no. If that's the case, have your child reach out to Mr. Kain (bkain@hf233.org) or Mr. Coy (kcoy@hf233.org) and they can get them some information and send it their way. Any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Kain or Mr. Coy.
