October Newsletter WRJH

Message from Principal Phillips
Hello WRJH Families!
I hope that everyone is doing well. We are nearing the end of the first quarter, October 15th, and your students and our staff have been working hard to push to new levels of learning and achievements. Please take the time this week to review your students' grades, any missing assignments, etc. in order to make sure that your students are performing at the level that you want for them. They have a little under two weeks to work to meet your expectations if they are not already there. Grades will be updated the week of October 19th in PowerSchool and the 1st quarter grades should be finalized by Thursday, October 22nd. Remember, we do not send paper copies of report cards home, you will have to look on PowerSchool once they are finalized.
As we finish up the first quarter, I wanted to point out that for many of your students classes are going to be a bit more challenging. A big part of the first quarter is relationship building and reviewing previous material, especially in classes like Math. As the new material becomes the focus of daily work, we often find that students become frustrated because things are not as easy as they were a few weeks ago. Please talk with your students about this and let them know this is normal. We want our students to understand that our true growth comes from working hard through challenges and when it is too easy, we are not growing.
For our parents with students on IEPs/504s, at this grade level and through high school, students are expected to self-advocate for some of their accommodations. For example, if a student has an accommodation of extended time on assignments or tests, they need to let the teacher know when they need extra time. Some of the bigger accommodations will be provided by staff without asking, but please make sure your student understands what their accommodations are and that they should be in open communication with the teachers about them, especially when they need them.
We are also entering cold and flu season, so please remind your students to wash their hands often, do not share drinks or food with each other, and make sure they are getting plenty of rest. We want everyone to be healthy and take good care of themselves.
Thank you for all of your hard work, your students are amazing children who have so much potential. All of us here at Waggoner Road truly enjoy our partnership and look forward to coming to school every day because of how wonderful the students, staff, and families are here!
Please reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend!

It has been such a wonderful September! We had such a wonderful time celebrating our Hispanic Student with our Hispanic Heritage Assembly. A huge thank you to all the student speakers and performers. Also thank you to the Ohio Hispanic Coalition for coming to share and give resources to our students. I am SO excited for October! We have the push for academic growth, we have our South Asian Heritage (Diwali) Ceremony, we have a walkathon, and my favorite Spirit Week of the year! Please remind students of speaking up and seeing something and saying something. This helps support our building in so many ways. Thank you for your support!
