Share Table

We are excited to announce that our school will soon be launching a Share Table program in the cafeteria to help reduce food waste while ensuring all students have access to extra nutritious food during the school day! To make this program a success, we encourage all students to continue coming through the breakfast and lunch lines to select a full, balanced meal and take only what they intend to eat. A select list of unopened, factory-sealed items or whole fruit they choose not to eat can be placed in our designated share bins, where classmates who need a little extra food can enjoy them, free of charge. Our cafeteria team will be reviewing with students how to safely use the table.

Please be aware that share tables can present an exposure risk for children with food allergies. If you have any specific concerns regarding your student's food allergies, please reach out to the school nurse.

Library Experience Feedback

We’d Love to Hear From You!

Mission Viejo is one of four Title I elementary schools participating in a three-year district pilot program that provides a certified Teacher Librarian in our school. This year marks the third and final year of the pilot, and we are gathering information to help tell the story of the impact our library program has had on students, families, and our school community.

Can you please take a few minutes to complete our short survey? Every response is valuable, and even a few sentences can help us tell our story!

Updated Birthday Policy

To keep all students safe—especially those with allergies or health concerns—we are making the following changes:

What’s Changing

  • No more traditional classroom birthday parties with food or snacks.

What You Can Still Do

  • Gift Bags: Store‑bought, individually wrapped items may be sent and will be handed out at the end of the day to take home.
  • Invitations: Birthday party invitations may also be passed out at the end of the day.

Why the Change?
This policy ensures every child can safely join in the celebration, regardless of dietary or health needs.

Thank you for helping us keep school celebrations safe, inclusive, and special for all students. If you have any questions, please reach out!

Dear Parents,

On Monday, November 2, 2026 we will be practicing a LOCKDOWN active threat drill. The intent of this drill is to practice our response to a situation where a LOCKDOWN is called, and police and district security personnel come to the school to help manage the situation.

When a LOCKDOWN alert is called, staff and students are trained to either secure themselves behind locked doors, remain silent and out of sight, or self-evacuate if they are in a position where it is safe to do so. Police and District Security personnel are trained to rapidly respond to secure the school and check on staff and students by eventually entering and/or evacuating every room.

During a LOCKDOWN, adrenaline is often high for staff, students, and first responders. Therefore, it is very important to implement strategies that can help reduce anxiety and bring everyone back to a state of calm and reassurance.

One way to do this is to communicate a “Code Word” through our RedBag software to all classrooms. It will be used by responding officers and security personnel to reassure staff and students inside locked classrooms that police are knocking on the door and notifying classrooms they are coming in or requesting the occupants to come out. These “Code Words” are not pre-determined but rather generated during the incident to allow for maximum security of the incident.

During the fall lockdown drills, will use the “Code Word” system to practice this procedure. Additionally, teachers will be using a tool within the RedBag software to take attendance of all students in the building. This tool will help with reunification if that is needed following a lockdown or any other circumstance where a verified release is necessary.

As always, during the drill we will be supported by District Security, School District Administration, Law Enforcement, and Fire/EMS personnel who will assist us in checking doors and classrooms and coaching us through the process. This is important as all of them will have a part in responding to help. Each drill should take approximately 30 minutes as we practice various aspects of our LOCKDOWN procedure.

At the conclusion of the drill, our building Safety Team will debrief the drill to discuss lessons learned and provide us with strategies to improve our response. We invite all staff and students to provide feedback and ask questions about the process so that we can continuously improve our practice.

Please reach out to me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Amanda Replogle

Assistant Principal

Estimadas familias:

Atentamente,

Amanda Replogle
