MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL- October Edition

๐ŸŽƒWelcome October๐ŸŽƒ

Dear Rose Hill Families,

Happy October, Rose Hill families! ๐Ÿ‚ As we welcome a new month, we are excited for all the learning, activities, and special events happening throughout our school community. October is also an important time for us to highlight one of the key factors in student success: attendance.

Attendance Matters!

Every school day is an opportunity for our students to learn, grow, build friendships, participate in classroom activities, and receive the support they need to be successful. When students attend school regularly and arrive on time, they have more opportunities to stay connected to their learning and classroom community. Ohio has made changes to its attendance laws that place a greater emphasis on chronic absenteeism and early support. Beginning on September 30, 2025, Ohio defines a student as chronically absent when they miss 10% or more of the minimum required school hours for the year. Importantly, all missed instructional time counts toward chronic absenteeism, regardless of whether the absence is excused or unexcused. This includes full-day absences, tardies, early dismissals, and time missed when leaving school during the day. These changes are intended to help schools identify attendance concerns earlier and partner with families to provide support before missed time becomes a larger barrier to learning. They are not intended to discourage families from keeping students home when they are truly sick. If your child is ill and is not well enough to participate in learning effectively, please keep them home and allow them time to recover. We want our students healthy, comfortable, and ready to learn! When your child returns to school, please provide any applicable doctor's documentation or other required documentation to the school office.

We also encourage families to be mindful of the smaller amounts of missed time that can add up throughout the school year. Arriving on time, staying for the full school day, and attending regularly all make a difference. Even a few missed hours here and there can add up over time.

Stay in the Game! ๐Ÿ†

This year, Rose Hill is excited to emphasize the Stay in the Game! Attendance Network, a statewide initiative focused on bringing students, families, schools, and communities together to support strong attendance. The message is simple: Attendance is a team sport! Students cannot do it alone. Families, teachers, school staff, and our community all play an important role in helping students stay connected to school. One way families can participate is through the Stay in the Game! Attendance Pledge. The pledge encourages students to commit to showing up each day ready to learn, while encouraging the adults in their lives to support them along the way. We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of coming to school every day, arriving on time, and making the most of their time at Rose Hill. Ask them about what they are learning, celebrate their progress, and remind them that every day they show up is another opportunity to learn something new!

Rose Hill's School-WIDE PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports)

This year we will continue to focus on our 5 school-wide expectations. We will refer to them under the acronym R.O.C.K.S. (Be Respectful, Be On-Task, Be Collaborative, Be Kind, Be Safe)

We will teach, model and reinforce our ROCKS expectations through the weekly Rise & Shine assembly and daily morning circles. There are also posters displayed throughout the building. Our goal is to provide visual reminders for our students of the building-wide expectations as they are transitioning throughout the building. Please check in with your student to ask them how they are being a Rose Hill Mustang who ROCKS. We appreciate your support and look forward to working collaboratively with you as we implement our new PBIS goals this year.
