Notes From the Principal
Your Woodward Team presented at the Federal Programs Improving School Performance Conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on January 31st. We shared the story of how we work together to help children grow into leaders of tomorrow!
Be Safe
Caroline designed this Character Poster to share with the school to represent the concept of "Be Safe."
Caring
Our Student Ambassadors care about their classmates, and when they see a need, they help.
Be Kind
Matthew and his sister represent Kindness in this Character Poster.
Be Responsible
Leo designed this Character Poster with his friend, Jared, to represent "Be Responsible," because Student Ambassadors demonstrate the character trait of responsibility every day at Woodward!

Finn led this group of 4th grade Student Ambassadors in the set up for this photo to demonstrate being respectful.

Federal Programs
February Federal Programs Updates
All elementary schools conducted full school assessment screenings of math and reading progress in January. Our intervention teams used this information to update WIN groups (What I Need), and from what we are seeing so far, our students are growing rapidly! You should have received letters indicating what services they are receiving for this marking period.
Report Cards will come home February 3rd.
At all school levels, we use Title IV federal funds to purchase incentives for PBIS (our positive school-wide behavior supports) rewards, and we emphasize the goal of following school rules in all schools.

Open the link below to find out how you can engage in family activities and take advantage of discounts and free opportunities!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
The faculty and staff of KCSD encourage parents to send their student to school everyday in order to achieve academic success!
If your student is absent, all parent excuses or medical excuses must be received by the office within 3 days after they return. Excuses can be emailed to: wwattendance@kcsd.k12.pa.us
If you are concerned about your student's attendance, please reach out to your student's school counselor.
Counseling Connection
SAP
If you are concerned about a student for any reason, you can make a SAP referral. The SAP referral can potentially lead to any needed services and/or supports the student may need to be successful.
Family Focused February
Family and school partnerships are essential for helping students achieve at their maximum potential and while parent and community involvement has always been a cornerstone of public schools, greater recognition and support of these collaborative efforts is needed. Translation Services
If your family speaks a language other than English, the district has access to translators and interpreters that can accompany you in meetings with teachers and school members. If you would like to be connected with a translator or interpreter please reach out to your child’s teacher or the school guidance counselor. The accessibility features in the top right corner of this Smore allow you to translate this page.
Woodward School Counseling
During the winter months, many individuals experience a reaction to the lack of sunlight and shorter days. Taking time to get outside when the sun is out, learning about alternatives to natural sun light, getting good nutrition and taking time to get a little exercise are all good options to help you get through the coldest and darkest part of winter. Good news! The days are getting longer and the sun is feeling warmer! Spring will soon be here!
If you need to talk to someone, our school counselor, Mrs. Owens, is always available.
A counselor is someone to talk to, who will listen without judgment. A school counselor can assist in short-term counseling and if needed arrange long-term counseling and the SAP (Student Assistance Program) and Tier II support. Counselors can teach students tools to improve and cope with different situations, especially because sometimes it's hard to figure out where to start. Students may be want to see a counselor for the following reasons:
- Want to share an experience/feelings
- Feel depressed and/or lonely
- Have thoughts of self-harm
- Feel stressed and/or anxious
- Feel angry and/or frustrated
- Want to improve grade(s)
- Talk about college/careers
- Relationship/peer issues/conflicts
- Personal issues (divorce/separation, loss of a loved one, etc.)
To learn more or to schedule a meeting, please contact your student's school counselor.
