A message from the PTA Board

This is our last week before our Memorial Day Holiday and know that this time of year brings lots and lots of activity. Please consider joining our students for upcoming musical programs, field trips, and Field Day. If you have not joined for Field Day, this is a fun day that our students look forward to every year. Whether you have a Kindergartener or 5th Grader, this is a great way to bring joy to all of the kids. Mr. D has designed stations that allow all our students to have success and teamwork, but it takes 40 grown-ups per time slot to make it all run smoothly. Please Sign-up below!

May 26th Newsletter

Next week, the PTA Newsletter will include a sign-up for Classroom Connectors, Event Chairpersons, and Program Support for the 2026/2027 School Year. We need lots of help to make our school year a success and hope that you will consider sharing your time and talents.

End-of-Year Teacher/Staff Gift Crowd

If your family would like to contribute to a group thank you gift to our teachers/staff, please consider donating to the End-of-Year Gift Crowd. How it works: you select the teachers/staff that you'd like to contribute to and the amount, you can include a message or picture, and when the program closes on June 10th the staff member gets a collective amount to choose gift cards from their favorite stores and restaurants. They will not see the individual contribution, just the total amount. This includes all teachers, support staff, bus drivers, etc. Thank you for your contribution.

School Supply Sales: Discounts Until 5/31

We are at 53% of our school purchasing kits so far!

Our ever-popular back-to-school supply sale will be returning this April-May with EPI. Last year, over 70% of our school participated in the program, and this year we hope to make it an even bigger participation. We work closely with our rep at EPI to keep costs low and help families avoid the dreaded summer shopping. The kits include items that the teachers specifically want, and in many classes, the supplies are shared. Kits purchased before 5/31 will be discounted to $62. 6/1-7/13, they go to the regular rate of $70 per kit (JK/K will stay at $62).

How it works:

  • All incoming Jr. K through 5th-grade students will have the opportunity to order their supply kit.
  • When you click on the link to order your kit, please enter our school code: BIN011
  • Once ordered, the kits will be delivered to your student's classroom before the start of school on August 31st.
  • The only thing not included in the kits are corded headphones, which all K-5 students need (not JK).
  • If you have a neighbor or friend joining the school, please tell them about this opportunity.

District Technology Survey - Please Participate!

The Birmingham Public School District provided the following message on 4/30. All families are encouraged to review the guidelines and provide feedback. At the 5/19 District Board Meeting, they will be making recommendations to be implemented in the fall 2026. The changes being proposed are based on feedback during the previous survey and in response to state legislation. The guidelines are specific to grade levels and will impact what tools are used and durations limits. Please read the two documents and provide a survey for each school that your student(s) are enrolled in.

District Message:

Community update: Instructional technology review

At Birmingham Public Schools, we are committed to utilizing instructional technology to help prepare our students for success and the in-demand careers of tomorrow. We also take numerous measures to help ensure all students use this technology responsibly both inside and outside the classroom.

As technology continues to evolve, Birmingham Public Schools is conducting a thorough review of district policy regarding digital resources used for teaching and learning, including school-issued devices, digital tools, and the i-Ready platform.

The District Curriculum Council, which includes teachers, administrators, parents, students, and Board of Education members, has been reviewing community survey results on this issue and is making recommendations related to instructional technology use at Birmingham schools. These recommendations are aligned with the most up-to-date research, best practices, and community input. A separate committee is evaluating the use of smartphones and personal devices at school.

Families, staff, and community members are invited to review the draft recommendations and complete the feedback survey linked below. Input gathered will help inform final revisions.

Updated Administrative Regulation

Outlines district expectations for student use of school-issued devices, digital tools, internet access, and responsible technology use.

Companion Guidance Document

Provides practical examples and recommended practices to support consistent implementation in schools and classrooms.

All Hands on Deck!

Consider spending 30-60 minutes with us at lunchtime to assist with ice cream distribution or supervise lunchtime recess. You can choose to supervise your students in their play element or jump in and start up a game/activity. Do you love hopscotch, kickball, soccer, or basketball? If so, there are plenty of kids who would love to have you join them at recess. You can stay for the full time block or just your student's recess time (we appreciate what you feel most comfortable with).

Do you love the library, want to help at an event, or help out in other ways? We have opportunities for that too. Volunteer Opportunities are open to all parents, grandparents, caregivers, or other caring adults who would like to support our school. All volunteers must have a current iChat form on file with the office. Thank you for your time.
