Marlette Elementary School

MarletteElementary SchoolJanuary Update - January 8, 2024

Note from the Principal - Mr. Reynolds

Hi everyone,

The stretch from January until Spring Break at the end of March may seem like forever, but it is also the most important time of the school year. Students and staff will be covering the most content possible, especially grades 3-5, to prepare for the M-STEP in April and May. We want to see the best results to show the greatest growth possible.

A new year always brings new goals. At Marlette Elementary, we will be focusing on the following three goals:

1. Improve student morale and attitudes towards testing to get the best results possible.

2. Identify and purchase the best curriculum in Language Arts and Math for all elementary grades.

3. Continue to focus on the social-emotional health of all students.

Thank you for the continuing support of your students.

Mr. Reynolds

Thank You and Welcoming of New Staff

Marlette Elementary would like to thank Julianne Cowley as she retired December 31st for all of her years of service to Marlette Community Schools. We would also like to thank Melissa Laming for servicing our students' social-emotional needs the last few years and wish her well at her newest endeavor. Finally, we would like to thank Kerri Newland for fulfilling the resource room position since the beginning of the year.

Starting the new year, we would like to welcome Lori Musiel, our new special education teacher. She will be taking over for Mrs. Newland. We would also like to welcome Baleigh Brooks, a student teacher from Saginaw Valley State University, who will be student teaching in Mrs. Lams' 1st grade classroom.

Creating a Home Reading Environment

It cannot be stressed enough that reading with your child twenty minutes a night can improve their success in school immensely. One way of promoting and engaging reading at home is creating a successful home literacy environment.

Math Fact Fluency

Practicing and mastering basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division math facts is just as important as reading every night. If your child struggles learning their math facts with flash cards and memorization, there are other great ways for students to master their facts in a positive fashion. This LINK offers alternative ways to learn math facts to help students boost confidence and to prepare them for more challenging concepts down the road.
