LRC Weekly Update
August 24th 2025

August 24th 2025
Welcome to the LRC!π
Welcome to the elementary library! I'm the new LRC Director, and I'm thrilled to be joined by our new LRC Assistant, Sarah Perkins. We're both so excited to partner with you to support our students. To ensure everyone has the resources they need, we've established a few procedures.
You can schedule meetings with me through my YouCanBookMe page. We've also made it easy to book the small work spaces in the library using the booking system PickTime. Finally, to access the weekly library and check-out schedule, please refer to my LRC Schedule spreadsheet that has been shared with all staff. We're looking forward to a great year of collaboration!
π iReady Make-Up Testing π
For any 1st through 5th grade students who were absent or unable to complete their iReady Diagnostic last week, we will be holding make-up testing sessions in the library. Please refer to the iReady testing schedule to see when your students are scheduled.
If you notice any errors or have specific student needs, please add a comment directly in the spreadsheet. This will help me ensure all students are accounted for and can complete their assessment. Thank you for your help in this matter!

Tech Tidbits and Information
Vivi Updates
Please do not unplug Vivi's if they are having issues. These devices work differently than our previous Screenbeams. If you are having issues with vivi please place a helpdesk ticket.
YouTube Update
Elementary students cannot access YouTube as of June 2025. While this has its good points it may create a wrinkle in your teaching if you want students to utilize secondary video sources. But fear not! there is a workaround.
If you want to continue to use YouTube videos and have students access them you can embed them in google slides. If you have any questions about how to embed videos in your slides please reach out to Kristine. :)
Daily Sub Tech Capabilities
New this year, daily subs will use a chromebook issued from the LRC. These devices can connect to Vivi using classlink, however, daily subs do not have the ability to print.
They also do not have access to many Classlink and instructional apps. Please keep this in mind when you are planning an absence.
Long term subs will have a laptop with printing abilities and access to most apps.

π A message from the St. Charles Public Library π
I hope you had a restful summer. I reflected on questions/concerns about Educator Cards and Teacher Loans and came up with these program improvements.
Current Educator Cards will expire on 8-15-25. To renew, you may stop by the Library and show your current staff ID card OR you may stop by the teacher lunchroom on the day I'm scheduled to be at your school on Sept. 17th from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. You will not be issued a new card; your existing card will simply be renewed. If you've moved schools, changed your address, phone number or your name, you will need to share that information with me so that I can update your Educator Card account.
Teacher Loan updates: You will no longer receive paper receipts of the items checked out to you, you will receive an email receipt. We encourage you to collaborate with your peers, if another teacher in your building is requesting the same topics, we will only be able to fulfill the first request received. We need to ensure that we are not depleting our collection.
To request a teacher loan, please submit your topics using our designated form at least three business daysβand no more than seven business daysβprior to your desired pickup date*. Our staff will select suitable materials, check them out on your behalf, and package them in a convenient bag for easy pickup. As an added courtesy, D303 teachers have the option to receive their materials via delivery. Deliveries are made exclusively on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Teacher loan items may be borrowed for up to three weeks.
Please use our form.
π Book Check-In Procedures π
Book Return
Please have students bring back their books individually at their next library/check-out time. They will sit with their books during library time and check-out will be staggered to allow for small groups to check-in and get new books for the week. This is a great opportunity for students to have "one last look" at their library books.
Books may be borrowed for two weeks before they need to be returned or renewed. D303 does not charge overdue fees but we do charge replacement fines for lost or damaged books.
Students who forget their library books will be able to look in the free book bins near the circulation desk and take one book. It is theirs and does not need to be returned. For each visit, students are able to take one book. The free book section is for everyone, but students who do not return their books can only take a book from this selection during check-out.
Self Checkout - Grades 2-5
Student self checkout ID cards are printed and accessible at the circulation desk. They are to remain at the circulation desk and not removed from the library. Grades K and 1 will be able to use the self-checkout with the help of a staff member or LRC staff.
Self Checkout - Staff
For your convenience, staff may checkout a book. At the self checkout station, please use the staff ID card set and scan your ID to check-out books.
