Holy Rosary
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3| WEEK 2| 1ST AUG 2025
As we gather in our school community this week, we are reminded through this Sunday’s Gospel that true richness is found not in possessions, but in love, wisdom, and generosity.
Dear Jesus
Help us to seek the things that are above — kindness, compassion, and truth — and to let go of what distracts us from You.
Teach us to value each person in our school as a gift, and to build a community where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported.
May our hearts be open to Your presence in the everyday moments — in the classroom, the playground, and in quiet reflection.
Guide our students to grow not only in knowledge, but in spirit. Bless our teachers and families with patience and joy. And may we always remember that our greatest treasure is found in You.
Amen.
Dear Parents. Friends, Guardians and Staff,
We’ve had a whirlwind of excitement lately, and I’m thrilled to share some of the highlights from our vibrant school community.
Cross Country Champions
Our Cross Country team ran like the wind! Huge congratulations to our students who gave it their all. Whether you sprinted, jogged, and heroically powered through the pain, we’re proud of you for an overall 6th placing. A massive thank you to Mr Flexman, who somehow managed to coach, cheer, and keep track of everyone’s shoelaces. You’re a legend!
Piano Prodigies
Both Leo Mak and Xavier Tan recently performed solo piano pieces at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival, and let’s just say—Chopin would be impressed. Their talent and poise were remarkable, and we couldn’t be prouder. Bravo!
NAIDOC Week Celebration
Today We celebrated NAIDOC Week with heart, spirit, and a beautiful Mass. Thank you to Miss Matrenza and Miss Bennell for leading the way with grace and passion. The students were engaged, respectful, and may or may not have tried to out-sing the teachers during hymns.
Parent Induction Sessions
It’s been an absolute joy meeting our Pre-Kindy, Pre-primary and Kindy parents during induction sessions. These gatherings are all about building community - and figuring out how to get glitter out of carpet and how to support reading learning. Thank you for your enthusiasm and willingness to jump into school life. We love having you on board and volunteering to help in the classroom. There are more sessions planned too for others who are interested.
Student Leaders Meet Basil Zempilas
Our class representatives had the chance to meet The Honourable Basil Zempilas, who shared insights on leadership, community service, and how to survive a media interview without saying “um” too many times. It was a fantastic learning experience, and our students left inspired (and possibly considering careers in politics or journalism).
Thank you all for being part of our Holy Rosary community. Whether you’re cheering from the sidelines, helping in the classroom, or just making sure lunchboxes don’t contain last week’s banana - your support means everything.
Have a fantastic weekend.
Kind regards,
Michael O'Dwyer
Principal

2025 Marie Curie Lectures: Quantum century – Unlocking the universe’s secrets and shaping our future with Dr Danielle Holmes
- Tuesday 12 Aug
- 6:00pm - 8:00pm (AWST)
- University of Western Australia Physics Building Foyer
Fairway, Crawley WA 6009, Australia
100 years ago, quantum physics was born to explain curious behaviour of tiny things. Since then, it has become our most powerful tool that humans possess, not just for increasing our understanding of the world, but for shaping its future. It has unlocked secrets of our universe, such as why stars shine and how migratory birds navigate. Scientists are now harnessing quantum physics to develop revolutionary computers that will solve problems that are currently out of reach, such as designing new medicines to fight disease and developing new materials to combat climate change.
This public lecture is part of the Australian Institute of Physics’ 2025 Marie Curie Lecture Series presented by Dr Danielle Holmes, a passionate science outreach communicator. Dr Danielle Holmes makes ‘qubits’ using individual atoms in silicon chips than can revolutionise humanity’s problem-solving abilities. As a Postdoctoral Researcher and Lecturer at UNSW, she shares her love for quantum physics well beyond the laboratory- having even performed at the Sydney Comedy Festival!
Tickets are FREE but registration is essential.

This week I witnessed a few groups of students using the Talk it Out benches here at school. It is great to see them actively working on building healthy friendships and resolving issues on the same day. Thank you for supporting them to make these very important choices. This week’s URStrong parent information is below.
Bullying: What Schools are Getting Wrong: We are working hard at our school to create a culture of kindness among the students. To do this, we have embraced URSTRONG’s proactive approach to bullying. Here’s an interview with the Founder of URSTRONG sharing why we use the term “Mean-on-Purpose” instead. It is important to note, however, that we believe over 90% of conflicts that happen at school are, what URSTRONG calls, Friendship Fires®.
We have a wonderful and busy term with NAIDOC Day, St Dominic’s Day, Book Week, Athletics Carnival, and the Talent Show happening. Having a routine and knowing about any changes in the school week is so helpful for the students to plan and enjoy the special events. The library noticeboard will always have the details of the week ahead, as well as what is happening in the library with the Chess Tournament, Numero and Book Week Celebrations.
Mrs Butson
Together we can keep our community as healthy as possible.
