Student Advocacy Needs Student Advocacy Needs

What does it mean to advocate for students? What does it mean to advocate for students?

The WGSM School Improvement Council wants all to know what it means to advocate for students

Being an advocate for students means fighting to support, guide, and encourage learners of all abilities, backgrounds, and needs in the classroom so that they can flourish in school and in the community. Student advocacy focuses on identifying students' educational needs and then taking proactive steps to gain maximum support for meeting those needs. Even when your actions are met with resistance, you still advocate (fight to support) the student, helping the student navigate educational, personal, and other school matters that impact academic success.

Student Voice in Advocacy

Students, take the Advocacy Survey, and let us know your needs.

Students, tell us what you need. Take the Advocacy Survey.

After we review the needs of the students, parents will receive a survey letting them know the needs of the students and asking how parents can help to advocate for all students.

Help Us Celebrate

American Education Week—Nov. 13-17, 2023. This event presents all Americans with an opportunity to celebrate public education and honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. Each day of the week-long celebration is an observance of how each member of the community can contribute to making public schools great.

Home Language Survey (HLS) Home Language Survey (HLS)

The Civil Rights Acts of 1964, Title VI, Language Minority Compliance Procedures, requires school districts and charter schools to determine the language(s) spoken in each student's home in order to identify their specific language needs. All students must have a Home Language Survey in their file. You would have completed the survey in your elementary school; however, we are missing some.

Please complete the attached survey. If your child's survey is missing from their file, we will use this information to complete a survey and place it in your child's file.

If an administrator contacted you last week regarding the survey, there is no need to complete a new one.

Thank you so much.
