Please note, the initial page of the survey has a dropdown in the upper right corner which gives choice of preferred language. Complete the survey online today!
D14 Elementary Debate Tournament
Next week Saturday, May 31st, MS 50 is hosting the Spring D14 Elementary School Debate tournament! This awesome event brings together 3rd-5th graders from across the district to debate and sharpen their argumentative skills. Our debaters serve as mentors to the students and judges for the rounds, a great example of student leadership in action! Parents, please check Operoo if your student is a debater to complete the permission slip.
ELT Ending Friday
This is the final week for ELTs! We have had a great year of athletics, arts, academic enrichment and more. Beginning next week, dismissal returns to 2:40PM Wednesday through Friday. If your student attends El Puente Beacon after school that will begin right after dismissal.
Classroom Spotlight: Arts and PE
Band
The MS 50 bands had an incredible Spring Concert last Saturday featuring musicians from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade concert bands, the Drumline, and the Jazz Band! Check the website soon for photos and a recording of the performance. The 7th and 8th grade bands and the Jazz Band are now making final preparations for their performances at the NYSSMA Festival on Wednesday where they will perform before a panel of judges who will rate them. We are so proud of our student performers!
Visual Art
In art, students have just wrapped up a drawing from observation project using the grid technique to practice proportion. Between beta fish, moths, and other colorful animals, each grade created hyper realistic artworks that are decorating the hallway. Our current project is centered around the theme of teacher appreciation month. Students are practicing drawing faces and learning tricks for symmetry and facial structure while also studying and referencing famous historical and contemporary portraits. These portraits will be gifts to teachers, paraprofessionals, and staff in the MS 50 community. This annual project is a meaningful celebration of our school community!
Physical Education
In PE this week, we will continue our preparation for the Field Days coming up in June! The events we are playing this week are Tug of War and Cornhole shootout! Students will get lots of time to play and familiarize themselves which each event throughout this unit to prepare for their Field Day. Each grade level will have their own Field Day:
- 6th Grade: June 4th
- 7th Grade: June 11th
- 8th Grade: June 20th
Please check Operoo to complete your permission slip or return the paper copy to your student's homeroom teacher.
