JANUARY HUSKIE HOWL
STUDENT FOCUS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Lillian Weigand and Alivia Armstrong, two of our outstanding 4th-grade students, are shining examples of responsibility and initiative. What began as a simple gesture of stopping by the office each morning to say hello has blossomed into a meaningful leadership role. Their positivity and enthusiasm now help set the tone for the day as they assist with morning announcements. Shadow Butte is truly their school, and through their kindness, responsibility, and leadership, they make it a brighter, happier place for all. We are proud of their contributions and grateful for the joy they bring to our school community!
Principal Jodie Farnsworth

NOTE FROM THE COUNSELOR
A lot of people struggle to stay positive during the winter months after the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Here are some tips to help you and your kids navigate the winter blahs.
1. Keep a structured sleep routine, even on the weekends.
2. Make sure you are eating healthy throughout the day.
3. Grab your coat and go outside as often as you can.
4. Exercise. 30-45 minutes of aerobic exercise four to five times a week can improve your mood.
5. Avoid blue light before going to sleep. Limit the screen time your children get before bed.

NOTE FROM THE NURSE
As you likely know the uninvited ugly beast Whooping Cough (Pertussis) has joined our community. View the link here from the Mayo Clinic for questions or concerns. Here is some quick key info you might not have known.
· If caught early there’s usually a 5-day antibiotic treatment. On the 6th day (day after finishing the antibiotic) the individual is no longer considered contagious (Southwest District Health of Idaho). So you may go back to work or school.
· If not caught early, you will need to manage the symptoms at home as you would be highly contagious until 21 days after the symptoms began (Southwest District Health of Idaho). This means you or your student would need to stay home until that 21st day.
· Lastly, if you are comfortable vaccinating please make sure yourself and family are up to date. Immunity may fade over time. If you or a close loved one is immunocompromised, you may choose to contact your Health Care Provider to be tested for immunity. Please stay safe and as healthy as possible.
Thank you so much for the wonderful contributions of clothes and shoes for our young friends who may need them. Feel free to donate either more clothing or funds for the Nurse account to get other necessities like deodorant, dental care kits, and other hygiene products that are needed.
STUDENT HANDBOOK
Please take a minute to locate our Student Handbook https://sbe.emmettschools.org/information/policies-procedures

ATTENDANCE
If your child is absent for any reason, call the office at 208-365-0877 or email sbeattendance@isd221.net to excuse your child. Thank you for letting your child's teacher know but they do not always have the time to get the message to the front office.
If doctor appointments are necessary during the school day, please bring a doctor's note for our records.
TRANSPORTATION CHANGES - called in by 2:30
- If there are changes on how your children will be going home at the end of the day, those changes must be called into the office at 208-365-0877 by 2:30pm. We cannot guarantee the change can happen after this time.
- If you need to check out your child during recess, we kindly request that you wait until the recess concludes or arrive before recess. This supports the safety of all students, as our duty staff can then focus on their designated supervision areas without any distractions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
Pick up Procedures
When pulling up in the pick up line DO NOT exit the car, if your student needs extra help, park in the lot closest to the school. This is safest method for all students and keeps the traffic flowing and from gathering on Idaho Blvd.
We ask that parents not park in the staff parking that is located on the corner of Idaho and Mesa so students and parents are not crossing traffic and in between moving cars.
Thanks again for helping us keep our students safe!
SCHOOL LUNCH
If you haven’t yet filled out a Free/Reduced application, they are available on our website, online on Infinite Campus, or at the school office.
