Carver Crusader Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you had the chance to relax and enjoy time with family and friends over the holiday season. January is a time for new beginnings and positive change, a perfect opportunity to reflect and refocus.
In my daily morning Words of Wisdom, I shared a quote from Robert Browning:
"Our aspirations are our possibilities." I encouraged our students to take some time to think about what they are aiming for in life. By setting short-term and long-term goals, they can create new possibilities and take steps toward achieving their aspirations.
At Carver Middle High School, the Carver Crusader Faculty, Staff, and Administration are here to support our students in reaching their goals. It is a privilege to serve this community and I am grateful for your continued support.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.
Christine Cabral
Principal

January Testing Schedule
Our 9th - 12th grade students will be taking Mid Year Exams in all content areas in January. The Mid Year counts as 10% of a student’s final grade in each semester course and 5% of a student’s final grade in each full year course.
Our 6th - 8th grade students will be taking a Schoolwide Reading and Writing Assessment on Friday, January 24th. The reading and writing assessment will not be factored into students' term or overall grade. These assessments increase academic rigor and best prepare our students to take formative, cumulative tests. These assessments also provide our teachers with a common benchmark on students academic performance to guide teacher instruction.
Please see the attached exam schedule. Note, we will be having a schoolwide early dismissal on Friday, January 24th and early dismissal for grades 9 -12 on Thursday, January 23rd and Monday, January 27th in order to accommodate the testing and scoring schedule.
NWEA MAP Growth Testing for Middle School Students
Our middle school students completed the MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® in the fall. Students in grades 6 & 7 will take the second winter assessment on January 13th and 14th. Students in grade 8 will take the next assessment on January 23rd and 30th.
MAP Growth scores help teachers check student progress by measuring achievement and growth. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students.
MAP Growth tests are unique, and it adapts to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level. Each test (reading and math) takes about an hour. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly. For more information about MAP Growth, visit NWEA.org/familytoolkit.
Coat Drive
We will continue to collect new and gently used coats through January 8th to support the Coats for Kids and Families Organization. High School Students can earn Community Service Hours for Donations.
