Lawrence Public Schools
All Students. One Team.

December 19, 2025
Hello Lawrence Public Schools Community,
We appreciate the diligent work of our students and teachers, school and district teams, as well as our parents and community members as we wrap up this first semester of the 2025-26 school year today.
Coming in January: Community Conversations Continue & Community Survey Opens
We look forward to connecting with our LPS community in multiple ways this winter: through Community Conversations that continue during January and February as well as a mid-year survey.
Gatherings and conversations with community groups will provide opportunities for students and families, staff and community to share their thoughts and experiences, reflect on our progress, confirm an updated strategic plan and help shape the future of Lawrence Public Schools. More information about dates, locations, and the many ways to participate will be shared in the new year. We will also launch a student, family and staff survey to extend through January.
We value the feedback we receive, and will share a full, public report of the information we collect prior to spring break; importantly, we will use this learning to inform and align our work moving forward.
Communications
To keep up with the great things going on in the district, you may want to check out the most recent Superintendent Report to the Board, follow us on Facebook, Instagram or visit our USD 497 YouTube Channel.
Our community has enjoyed dozens of beautiful student performances and visual arts displays recently, including an impressive Brassmas at the Lied Center featuring 150 lower brass musicians, including LPS students, aged 12 to 84. All these celebrations are evidence of the top-quality arts learning students consistently experience across all our Lawrence Public Schools, under the expert guidance of our amazing arts team.
For a moment of pure winter joy, I hope you will delight in the winter artwork featured below, "Holiday Lights - Oil Pastel" created by Annaliese, Ariana, Henry, Bronson, KC, and Carson who explore art in the beautiful classroom of Randa Lewis at Prairie Park Elementary. As you admire the art, you may click on the image for the gift of 30 seconds from a lovely choral performance of ‘Bidi Bom,’ shared by the Lawrence High School Choir conducted by Choral Director, Rachel Naughtin.
Caring, high-quality public schools are the outgrowth of engaged, supportive communities. Thank you for all you do to support the quality educational experiences of our more than 10,000 students and the remarkable teachers, staff, and leaders who serve them each day.
I wish you a safe, warm, and restful winter break.
