Neptune's News
Greetings, families!
The first quarter of the 25-26 school year ends this Friday, Oct. 10. In some cases, students may still be able to turn in missing assignments, so make sure your child checks with their teachers. Making up work is dependent on several things including, but not limited to, medical issues, teacher policy, and IEP accommodations. If you have questions or concerns, please speak with the classroom teacher for clarification.

If your child calls from their cell phone and states they are feeling ill, please direct them to obtain a pass from their teacher to visit the clinic. Before hanging up, remind them that they should not be using their phone. We cannot sign a student out of school "due to illness" unless they have seen the nurse, she documents the visit, and it is her recommendation the student go home.
Should your child get caught using their phone during the day, whether in person or because someone arrives to pick them up as a result of a call from their phone, they will receive a consequence. The consequence will be based on our behavior matrix, which takes into account the frequency of use as well as other related factors.
Please know that if you child ever needs to speak with you, they are allowed to get a pass from their teacher and come up to the office to make that call from one of our phones. Depending on what is happening in class and the urgency of the call, teachers reserve the right to determine the appropriate time at which a student is given a pass.

You may have noticed some adults and families protesting along Orchid Lake and Osteen Roads as you come and go from our campus. They are protesting the possibility of a road extension and an upcoming feasibility study for it. While we are not anticipating any issues with these homeowners, we want to let you know why they are along the roadside. In an effort to be proactive, we kindly ask that you do not engage with these people in a negative way and drive cautiously in the area. Regardless of the outcome with the study or a future road extension, these families are still our neighbors, and we want to maintain the amicable relationship we have built. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
Happy Fall, Y'all!
Kathy

FREE After-school Tutoring
We are pleased to office tutoring again this year, to all students free of charge.
Tutoring will be offered in reading and math. Tutoring will be data-driven based-on students’ performance on school-wide assessments.
Tutoring will begin the week of 9/29/2025 and end on April 30, 2026. The days offered are Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30.
If students are not picked up by 4:35 they will remain in the office and charges will apply ($1 for each minute late).
There will be no make-up sessions for missed tutoring and no tutoring during school breaks. If a student’s behavior and/or lack of effort impedes the student’s ability to learn or prevents others from learning, the parent will be notified by either the tutor or administration. If the behavior occurs again, the student will be dismissed from tutoring. If school closes early for any reason, tutoring will be canceled. Students will be assigned tutoring days of the week based on the tutor’s caseloads by the tutoring team.

DID YOU KNOW...
* In Florida, parents and guardians have a legal obligation to ensure their children attend school? Chapter 1003.21 of the Florida Statutes mandates that children aged 6 to 16 must regularly attend school. All children must be enrolled in a public or private school or registered to participate in home education.
* If families are not compliant with attendance laws, section 1003.27 of Florida Statutes allows for potential legal implications. Underscoring the important link between attendance and student achievement, the state can impose fines of up to $500 or require a jail stay for up to 60 days for habitual truancy.
* Schools in Florida are required to have a plan to address student truancy. Interventions are implemented beginning with a phone call and/or written notification. When these and other school-level supports are ineffective, outside agencies may become involved. If agency interventions fail to improve a student's attendance, the state may determine more drastic action is applicable.
* You can read more about Florida School Attendance Laws, including specific exceptions, at Florida School Attendance Laws and Transition Guidelines - LegalClarity.
The information above was gathered from Education Law, LegalClarity Florida (01/04/25).
