Issue #2 - September 9, 2026

YCIS-SV CommunityConnectionIssue #2 - September 9, 2026

Dear YCIS-SV Community,

Thank you for the wonderful beginning we have shared together this school year. It has been a joy to see our community come alive again with the energy, care, and shared commitment that make YCIS-SV such a special place.

We are grateful to our K–8 families and teachers for a meaningful Back-to-School Night last Thursday. We look forward to welcoming our ECE families this Thursday as we continue building the trusting partnerships between home and school that help every child thrive.

As we look ahead, admissions for the 2027–2028 school year have now begun. YCIS-SV is a community built together through the experiences we share, the relationships we nurture, and the trust we place in one another. If you know a family seeking a joyful, caring, and excellent bilingual education, we warmly invite you to share your YCIS-SV experience and encourage them to contact us through our online inquiry form or at admissions@sv.ycef.com.

Thank you for being an essential part of our YCIS-SV family. Together, we will continue to create a community where children grow with confidence, kindness, curiosity, and joy.

With warmth and appreciation,

Kevin & Vivian
Co-Principals, YCIS Silicon Valley

Ginkgo Tree Class Explores its Namesake!

The Ginkgo Class recently embarked on an exciting exploration of their namesake, beginning with hands-on observations of the Ginkgo tree's unique, fan-shaped leaves. Examining these distinctive broad leaves sparked a broader curiosity about nature, encouraging the children to closely investigate other key parts of trees, such as their sturdy trunks and branching pathways. This immersive discovery naturally bloomed into big questions about where things come from. It has been fun to watch their innate wonder lead the way, and we look forward to seeing where this meaningful inquiry takes them next.

September Trait of the Month: Friendship

This September, our K-8 school wide character trait is Friendship: Using your words and actions to show others you care. Throughout the month, students will explore what friendship looks like in their everyday interactions, from welcoming someone new and offering encouragement to standing up for others and noticing when someone needs help.

We are also connecting Friendship to two of our YCYW virtues: Love and Loyalty. Love reminds us to show genuine care, kindness, and compassion toward others, while Loyalty encourages us to be dependable, supportive, and stand by others. Together, these virtues help our students see that strong friendships are built through the small choices we make each day.

At home, we encourage you to continue the conversation! Try asking your child, “How did you show someone you cared today?” or “How did someone show friendship to you?” Our Friendship Family Newsletter also includes conversation starters and simple ways to reinforce friendship at home.

YCIS Shout Outs

At our Monday assemblies, we also love taking time to recognize students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to our core character values through their words, actions, and choices.

When your child receives a YCIS Shout Out, they will be recognized during assembly and will bring home a special note sharing what they did. We hope you’ll celebrate with them and continue the conversation at home about the positive impact they are making in our school community.

Learning Through Play: Chinese Chess and Chinese Checkers

The 5th graders have been learning how to play Chinese Chess and Chinese Checkers with their classmates. Beyond learning the games themselves, they are using this fun and relaxed experience as an authentic opportunity to practice Chinese. As they learn the rules, discuss strategies, take turns, and interact with one another, they are naturally developing their vocabulary, listening, and communication skills.

This experience is a wonderful reminder of the value of learning by doing. When students are actively engaged and having fun, they are able to apply their language skills in meaningful ways, the best learning happens when students are simply playing, communicating, and enjoying the experience together!

YALP Kinder Students Are Blooming!

Our YALP Kinder students are off to a wonderful start to the new school year! Their YALP teacher, Liu Laoshi, has been preparing a variety of exciting and engaging activities designed to make learning fun and meaningful, along with fun team-building games.

From exploring Chinese language and culture and discovering the joy of math to expressing their creativity through art, our students are learning, creating, and growing together. Just as importantly, they are building new friendships, practicing teamwork, and developing confidence as they become part of the YALP community.

It has been wonderful to see our youngest YALP students bloom, connect, and shine!
