On November 9th, the Connecticut Association of Schools (CAS) will be holding their 28th annual Elementary Celebration Of The Arts at the Aqua Turf, and two of our cheetahs will be recognized for excelling in the performing and/or visual arts! These two students, and their families, will be treated to an evening banquet, award ceremony, and entertainment. I am thrilled to announce that the two artists being honored that evening from Memorial School are Amila Singh and Louis Braunstein! Mrs. Maldonado and Mrs. Vining wrote the following about these learners:

Amila: Amila Singh is the recipient of the CAS Arts Award for Visual Art because of her outstanding artistic ability and her citizenship. Amila is an incredibly dedicated artist and an independent, creative thinker. She produces exceptional works of art, using her own unique point of view. In addition to her art skills, she is also a hard working and creative musician in music class. Amila isn't just an artist, though. She is a strong role model in all areas of school. She is kind to all, sets a strong example, and helps wherever needed. Congratulations, Amila, on this well-deserved reward!

Louis: Louis Braunstein will be the recipient of the CAS Arts Award for music because of his exceptional work in the music room! He has always been an active participant in music class, offering creative suggestions and ideas during activities. He is thoughtful in all of his music creations and responses and strives to produce high-quality music. Though he is receiving this award for music, he is also creative in the art room and produces quality art! He is a positive role model in class, helping wherever he is needed and guiding his classmates as well. He is responsible in class and friendly to all. Congratulations, Louis!

Smart Start Visits the Florence Griswold Museum Smart Start Visits the Florence Griswold Museum

The Smart Start PreK class visited the Florence Griswold museum to see “gem” themed fairy houses! They viewed many houses that were made by artists from all over CT. The artists used a variety of materials to build each home. Students explored the exhibit, dressed in decorated capes/masks that they made at school, and even got to make fairy ink prints!

PAWsitive Office Referrals PAWsitive Office Referrals

A PAWsitive office referral can be submitted to Mrs. Warner or Mrs. Bauer at any time when a staff member recognizes a student who has demonstrated a random act of kindness. These students earn a certificate, have their picture taken, and wear a pawprint sticker throughout the day so that everyone in the building knows they’ve earned a PAWsitive Office Referral.

Hello Memorial Families! It has been an exciting month of learning in the music room. Read on below to hear about your student’s work in music this month!

Preschool: Students were expected to use music tools safely and experiment with their voices and movements. They practiced using our four voices: talking, whispering, calling, and singing. They had fun choosing a way for friends to sing and wave hello, using scarves for dancing, and reciting poems like “Listen to the Leaves”.

Kindergarten: Students worked on four voices using the voice poem and responding individually with a singing voice during the singing ball game. They enjoyed singing songs like “Engine Engine” and “Here We Go Looby Loo”. They focused on the musical opposites fast and slow, too!

First Grade: Students worked on keeping a steady beat to all sorts of music this month. They practiced by playing a drum and singing songs like “Frog in the Bucket” and “Charlie Over the Ocean”. They continued to practice making a “perfect match” when using the singing ball. They have just started to work on a game called “Pass the Pumpkin” where they must pass a pumpkin to the beat of the song!

Second Grade: Students were expected to read and identify the notes and rhythms they learned in first grade. Now, they have noticed a new mystery rhythm, which gets two heartbeats! Favorite songs and games this month included “Beat Tag” and “Rico’s Pizza”. Students also practiced describing music they listened to, including the song “In the Hall of the Mountain King” by Edvard Grieg.

Third Grade: Third graders are expected to read and identify notes and rhythms they learned about in second grade. They have been working on discovering the names of two mystery notes on our staircase, and have found the notes in songs like “Biscuit”, “Alabama Gal”, and “Ghost of Tom”. They have even tried decoding the songs on a xylophone, while working hard on their problem solving skills! Classes also enjoyed learning a play party game/dance that goes with the song “Alabama Gal”!

Please check out the music room website for more information about the music program. Feel free to reach out at any time by emailing smaldonado@easthamptonct.org.

Hello Parents, and Guardians,

As we transition seasons, children need to dress appropriately for the weather and ground conditions.

The children go outdoors for recess year-round. Every child should have a gallon-size zip-lock baggie in their backpack or cubby with a change of seasonally appropriate clothes (including socks and underwear) in case of bathroom, mud puddle or food/drink accidents.

Parents will be notified to bring in a change of clothing if the student becomes wet and or soiled, and they do not have a change of clothing at school.

Thank you,

Krista Kardys RN
