April 18, 2025
Dear KCSD96 Community Members,
It’s hard to believe, but we’re entering the final two months of the school year! Let’s make the most of our time together—celebrating learning, growth, and the special moments that make our schools such vibrant places to be.
Be sure to read the rest of this newsletter for important updates, including the announcement of our 2024–25 Students of Distinction Award winners. These outstanding students were recognized in front of the Board of Education, and we are so proud of them! It's safe to say there were many happy tears in the audience from staff members and family members, celebrating this incredible group of students.
Staff Appreciation Week is coming up May 5–9! Each staff member within our 7 schools plays a critical role in your child's every day educational experience. We are very fortunate to be part of a community that values and supports the dedicated staff who make a difference. This truly is a community that cares.
Don't forget, Tuesday is Earth Day! If you didn't have a chance to read last month's E-News, we encourage you to take a moment and revisit the capital projects across KCSD96 which include eco-conscious initiatives like our solar panels at the Woodlawn and Country Meadows campus. I am grateful to the work of our schools, and our Facilities Team, for always putting our students at the heart of all of our construction initiatives.
And with that, I wish you all a wonderful 3-day weekend. We will see our students and staff again on Monday, April 21st.
Sincerely,
Katie Sheridan
Superintendent
Kildeer Countryside School District 96

KCSD96 Students of Distinction
On behalf of the district, we congratulate our KCSD96 Board of Education Students of Distinction who were recognized at this week's Board meeting for exemplifying excellence in achievement, effort, social-emotional learning, behavioral expectations, and leadership. This recognition program is an effort to recognize students across each of our 7 schools for demonstrating excellence during the school day.
This year, staff members had the opportunity to nominate a student for the award who consistently demonstrates:
growth in social and emotional skills, showing empathy, resilience, and the ability to collaborate effectively.
consistent effort, perseverance, and dedication, always striving to exceed expectations or has achieved a specific lofty goal.
respectful, responsible, and considerate behavior and serves as a positive role model to other students.
exceptional leadership by inspiring others, taking initiative, and fostering teamwork.
School staff members were invited to submit a nomination on behalf of a student for this prestigious award. School Leadership Teams, which include members of our certified staff and school administration, reviewed the nominations and selected a student based on the criteria listed above.
Please join us in congratulating the following students for their incredible impact!
Lena, Willow Grove
Giovanni, Country Meadows
Gavin, Ivy Hall
Samantha, Kildeer
Emma, Prairie
Ninjmaa, Twin Groves
Sailah, Woodlawn
May 5th-9th: Staff Appreciation Week is Coming Up!
Rooted in gratitude! From May 5th–9th, KCSD96 will celebrate Staff Appreciation Week!
This week and every week, we have a deep appreciation we have for every member of our school community—teachers, classroom aides, custodians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, administrative assistants, and so many more—who work tirelessly to support, nurture, and guide our students each day.
Just like the roots of a strong, thriving tree, their dedication and care provide the foundation that allows our school to grow, flourish, and succeed. We are truly grateful for all they do.
Transition to Middle School Info Night Presentation
This month, parents and guardians of 5th Graders were invited to attend the “Transition to Middle School,” where they will get answers to questions they may have about their student entering sixth-grade at a District middle school. It included an incredible panel of 6th grade students. If you missed the presentation, please check out the slides below!

Traffic Alert
Spring road construction in Lake County appears to be in full swing! This includes, but is not limited to, Checker Road, where crews are removing the existing concrete and replacing it with asphalt. This project is expected to take a few weeks and may impact traffic across the area. Please note: This construction will affect a handful of bus routes throughout the district. Families whose routes are directly impacted have already been contacted.
Even if you are not affected by Checker Road, it’s important that all families plan ahead and allow extra time in the mornings for possible traffic delays.
For more information and updates, please visit the Arlington Heights Rd Construction Website. Thank you for your patience and cooperation!
KCSD96 Celebrates Decade-Long Teacher Partnership with NIU
Did You Know? KCSD96 Green Initiatives!
Back in 2016, the KCSD96 Board of Education decided to pursue solar panels, reflecting a long-term investment in clean energy that will continue to benefit our community in the coming years. Those panels were energized in 2020. The Woodlawn and Country Meadows campuses stand as highlights of this effort, with 80-85% of their energy needs met through on-site solar generation. Across the district, solar power supplies approximately 25-30% of total energy consumption, with additional energy procured from renewable sources through cooperative agreements. You can view our solar power dashboard at any time on our website as it live tracks data.
