K8 Community Memo
November 1, 2026
Welcome K8 Families
Every Student. Every Day. Every Step Forward.
At Springdale, we believe every student deserves the opportunity to succeed, and we are working hard to ensure that no student slips through the cracks. Behind the scenes, our staff is doing some incredible work to make learning more intentional, personalized, and responsive to the needs of every child.
Each week, our Professional Learning Community (PLC) teams come together to review classroom assessments, celebrate student growth, identify learning gaps, and plan targeted instruction. Our RTI/MTSS team coordinates small-group interventions throughout the school day, providing students with additional time, instruction, and support to strengthen essential skills. Our special education teachers diligently monitor student progress and use data to guide specially designed instruction, while our student support team identifies social-emotional needs and provides small-group opportunities to build confidence, relationships, and important life skills.
Why do we do all of this? Because every student learns differently, and every student deserves what they need to be successful. We don't want to wait until a child is struggling to respond. We want to recognize needs early, provide the right support at the right time, and continually monitor whether our efforts are making a difference. Just as importantly, we want to challenge students who are ready to move ahead and celebrate the growth happening at every level.
This is what it means to be a school committed to continuous improvement. Data doesn't define our students; it helps us better understand how to serve them. Our small groups and interventions aren't simply extra programs. They are an essential part of how we teach, support, and believe in every child.
I am incredibly proud of our Springdale staff and their commitment to this work. Together, we are building a school where instruction is intentional, support is timely, and every student's growth matters. That's the Charger Way!
Our Columns of Support show this commitment in action: 124 groups across academics, social-emotional learning, and special education, plus Learning Lunch and 66 weekly Guardian Angel connections. Together, these supports reach 234 of our 307 students—more than 76% of our school—with opportunities to strengthen skills, build confidence, and connect with caring adults. That’s the Charger Way!
Parent-Teacher Conference
Parent-Teacher Conferences are this Wednesday and Thursday! We encourage every family to take advantage of this valuable opportunity to connect with your child's teachers. Strong partnerships between home and school make a tremendous difference in student success. Conferences are a time to celebrate growth, discuss academic progress, identify challenges, and work together to ensure every student has the support they need to thrive. Your involvement matters, and we look forward to connecting with you!
Make the most of your conference! We encourage parents to ask questions about their child's academic strengths, areas for growth, classroom engagement, and friendships. Consider asking: What is my child doing well? Where are they struggling? Are they meeting grade-level expectations? What can we do at home to support their learning? Most importantly, work with your child's teacher to identify one or two meaningful goals for the weeks ahead. Together, we can help every Charger achieve their very best!
Springdale Charger PTO
The Springdale Chargers PTO had to make a change to their November PTO meeting date to accommodate Family Night Out, which has been rescheduled for November 19th.
They are also excited to announce that for the first time, they will be offering Facebook Live during their PTO meeting! This will give families and community members another way to stay connected and see what the PTO is working on.
We encourage everyone to join them, whether in person or online! Your involvement and support help us make a difference for our students and school

A school immunization and flu shot clinic will be held at Mary Walker K–8 on November 3, 2026, from 1–3 p.m. Students must have a signed parent or guardian consent form to receive a vaccine. Contact Nurse Rima at 509-258-4534 to obtain a form or discuss your child’s immunization needs. Adult flu shots will also be available for those with qualifying insurance plans; see the flyer for details.
K8 Veterans Day Assembly
Our K–8 Veterans Day Celebration is just around the corner! We encourage our teachers and staff to help students personally invite veterans in their families, neighborhoods, and community to join us for this special day of recognition and gratitude. Our PTO will host a Veterans Breakfast at 9:00 a.m., followed by our schoolwide assembly at 9:30 a.m. Let's work together to fill our assembly with the incredible men and women who have served our country and show them just how much our Springdale Chargers appreciate their service and sacrifice!
