The B.Y.E. Buzz
Bernice Young Elementary School April 28
New Information
The Read-A-Thon was a success! Students read 188,522 minutes. Thank you for helping us keep track of minutes and encouraging your child to read outside of school. A big SHOUT OUT to Mrs. Stubbs and Mrs. Green for making this happen!
3rd, 4th and 5th will continue ATLAS Summative testing on Monday 28th (Math) and Tuesday 29th (Science). Please make sure students are here at school on time. They will not be allowed into their classroom once testing has started if they are tardy (Arkansas testing rule!).
Kindergarten (Armstrong/Addison) will start ATLAS testing on Thursday and along with 2nd grade.
We still need 680 more #2 plastics. We have enough for our bench, but we are hoping to get a bench for another school in Springdale that does not have one. Think- cleaner bottles, shampoos, OTC allergy medicine bottle, white milk jugs (not clear), or protein type drink bottles.

Tips from the Counselor- Test Taking Strategies
We are quickly approaching the end of the school year which means your child will be taking part in standardized testing. Some children struggle with testing and test anxiety, below are some tips and tricks that will help your child be successful.
For Students: Get a good night’s sleep, have a nutritious breakfast, relax and take slow, deep breaths during testing, follow directions and read each question carefully, move on if you don’t know an answer and come back to it later.
For Parents: Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest, eats breakfast, and gets to school on time. Send your child to school with words of praise and support, practice deep breathing with your child, send a letter of encouragement with your child that they can read before the test.
