Community Update
Hello North Rockland Families,
As we close out August, the North Rockland Central School District has wrapped up a successful summer of educational programs. K-12 students explored a wide range of interests through STEM, drama, arts and crafts, culinary and agriculture, music and college and career preparation. These hands-on experiences extend learning beyond the classroom and help students return ready for the year ahead.
To kick off September, families are invited to attend districtwide Open Houses on Tuesday, September 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. Open Houses will give students and families an opportunity to visit their schools, meet staff and get familiar with the spaces and routines ahead of the first day of school on Tuesday, September 8.
And for some, the school year is already underway, with North Rockland schools welcoming new teachers and student-athletes back to campus. This week, more than 30 new teachers participated in a two-day New Teacher Orientation, touring schools, exploring available resources and receiving guidance as they begin their careers in North Rockland. Follow our social media pages over the next few weeks to meet the new members of our teaching staff.
North Rockland High School and Fieldstone Middle School student-athletes also returned this week for fall tryouts, while the NRHS varsity football team has been hitting the turf in preparation for a historic season opener. On Friday, September 4, the Red Raiders will face longtime rival Nyack High School for the first time in more than 42 years as part of the Rockland County Kickoff Classic. The 7 p.m. matchup against the Nyack Redhawks will take place at Casarella Field at Cordisco Stadium, with a ceremony honoring former Red Raider football players at 6:30 p.m. Former players who competed for North Rockland before 1983 and plan to attend are asked to complete a form.
Let's go, Red Raiders!

NJROTC - New to the Role
Welcome Lieutenant Commander Huppert!
Lieutenant Commander Daniel Huppert, the new Senior Naval Science Instructor for the North Rockland High School NJROTC program, returns to the unit with a unique connection to the program. A proud 2002 North Rockland High School graduate and Stony Point native, Lt. Cmdr. Huppert describes the return as a full-circle moment. The values, discipline and leadership foundations gained as a student and cadet in these halls helped shape both his military career in the U.S. Navy and civilian professional life. Having experienced the program firsthand, he understands the transformative impact NJROTC can have on a student's future.
Over the past 19 years, Lt. Cmdr. Huppert's career has centered on service, public safety and leadership. He graduated from Binghamton University in 2007 before enlisting in the Navy as a Master-at-Arms, serving two deployments to the Middle East before earning a commission as a Security Limited Duty Officer in 2016. Since then, he has commanded several Navy Security Force (NSF) units, including NR NSF Naval Weapons Station (NWS) Earle and NR NSF Naval Support Activity (NSA) Philadelphia. He currently serves as the Officer in Charge of NR NSF Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek. Closer to home, Lt. Cmdr. Huppert has served the local community as a corrections officer with the Rockland County Sheriff's Office and previously worked in special education in both classroom and administrative roles at A Starting Place School in Pearl River.
At North Rockland, his focus is building on the strong foundation already established by the NJROTC program. In recent months, Lt. Cmdr. Huppert and Chief Duncan have worked behind the scenes to prepare for the upcoming school year. Lt. Cmdr. Huppert is committed to providing cadets with the mentorship, structure and encouragement they need to lead with integrity, serve their community and develop the confidence to pursue their goals after graduation. He looks forward to working with cadets, families and school leadership throughout the 2026-27 school year.
District Provided School Supplies
As we prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year, we do so with the knowledge that the North Rockland community is a special place in which parents and the school work together to provide our students with the best possible educational experience. We appreciate that partnership and feel that it is important that the NRCSD continue with its practice of providing Elementary students (Grades K-6) with the basic supplies necessary for success in school rather than putting that burden on to our families.
Classroom teachers have identified and ordered supplies and materials that students will need for the 2026-27 school year. Your child’s teacher will distribute them to students when school begins in September. Your child’s teacher may recommend a few additional items after school starts, but the majority of the supplies will be purchased and provided by the District.
