Principal's Message

Dear Mary M. Knight Families,

As we welcome March and the promise of spring, I'm excited to share the wonderful activities and achievements happening throughout our school community. This week marks the beginning of our high school spring sports season, with high school baseball, golf, and track all starting Monday. Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate the GRIT we value so deeply at MMK - Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity.

I want to celebrate our Lady Owls basketball team who recently competed at the state tournament. While they didn't bring home a victory against Muckleshoot Tribal School, they represented our school with tremendous heart, determination, and class. Our hallways erupted with school spirit during their send-off, truly exemplifying what makes Mary M. Knight special. To our senior players - thank you for your leadership and for setting such a powerful example for our younger athletes.

Last week, our elementary students embarked on their field trip to the Hands On Children's Museum in Olympia. These hands-on learning opportunities allow our children to connect classroom concepts with real-world exploration. It's always wonderful to see their faces light up with excitement as they discover new concepts through play and interactive experiences.

I'd like to remind our families of secondary students (grades 7-12) that our tutoring program continues Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, offering direct assistance with assignments and assessments. This valuable resource requires families to arrange transportation at 4:30 PM.

For March, our Character Strong focus is cooperation. At home, you might consider discussing with your children how working together helps overcome challenges and achieve goals. The Character Strong newsletters provide excellent resources for strengthening social-emotional skills both at school and home.

Finally, congratulations to our GRIT award recipients for the week of 2/24/25! These students exemplify what it means to approach challenges as stepping stones to greatness. We're proud of how they're embracing our theme of "Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence."

Thank you for your continued partnership in ensuring all our students have the knowledge, skills, motivation, and confidence to be successful citizens. Together, we truly are a community of learners and leaders united to enrich the lives of all our students.

With Owl Pride,

Mr. Stoney

Mary M. Knight Elementary Field Trip to Hands On Children's Museum

We're excited to share highlights from our wonderful K-3 field trip to the Hands On Children's Museum in Olympia! Our youngest Owls had an incredible day of exploration, discovery, and hands-on learning at this amazing facility.

Throughout the day, our students engaged with a variety of interactive exhibits that sparked their curiosity and encouraged creative problem-solving. From building and engineering challenges to water experiments and art activities, our K-3 students were fully immersed in experiential learning that complemented our classroom curriculum in science, math, and creative arts.

It was wonderful to see their faces light up with excitement as they discovered new concepts through play. The museum's mission to stimulate curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking through fun, interactive experiences was evident in every moment of our visit.

We'd like to extend a special thank you to our parent volunteers who helped make this trip possible and to the museum staff for creating such a welcoming environment for our students.

Field trips like these are an important part of the educational experience at Mary M. Knight, allowing our students to connect classroom learning with real-world exploration. We're proud of how well our students represented our school community with their enthusiasm, respect, and engagement.

Check out these photos of our young Owls in action at the museum! We hope these smiles brighten your day as much as they did ours.

Lady Owls Complete Remarkable Season at State Tournament

Our Mary M. Knight Lady Owls basketball team concluded their impressive season yesterday at the state tournament, facing a tough Muckleshoot Tribal School team. While they didn't come home with a victory, they demonstrated the heart, determination, and GRIT that has defined their season from day one.

The journey to the state tournament itself was a tremendous achievement, showcasing months of hard work, early morning practices, and unwavering commitment. Our Lady Owls fought until the final buzzer, representing our school with pride and class.

Before departing for the tournament, our hallways erupted with school spirit as students and staff lined up to give our team a proper send-off. The energy and support from our entire school community truly exemplified what makes Mary M. Knight special.

We want to extend our sincere congratulations to all our players and coaches for an outstanding season! Making it to the state tournament is an accomplishment that the entire Mary M. Knight community celebrates with you.

To our seniors: thank you for your leadership and for setting a remarkable example for our younger athletes. The legacy you leave behind will inspire future Lady Owls for years to come.

We couldn't be prouder of how our team represented Mary M. Knight both on and off the court throughout this memorable season.

Go Owls! 🦉🏀

Secondary Tutoring - Are you in grades 7-12 and want tutoring?

Dear MMK Families,

Our secondary tutoring program continues to provide academic support for students in grades 7-12. The program runs Tuesday through Thursday from 3:00 to 4:30 PM, offering students direct assistance from teachers on assignments and assessments.

Students must attend the full session unless prior arrangements for early pickup are confirmed by parents. While this is a valuable opportunity for academic support, families need to arrange transportation at 4:30 PM, as bus service is not available. Please note that tutoring should not be used as a waiting period for after-school events.

Weekly GRIT students

Last year, we had a theme of Above-The-Line and recognized student that were that demonstrated characteristics or actions of being Above-The-Line. This year we will continue our student recognition program as part of our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program with our positive referrals and weekly GRIT awards.

GRIT Awards - In the 2024-25 academic year, we're all about embracing 'Nurturing Resilience, Inspiring Excellence' as our guiding principle. We believe that having GRIT – Growth, Resilience, Intensity, and Tenacity – is key to creating a culture where challenges are seen as stepping stones to greatness. We want to foster a growth mindset in our students and ourselves, understanding that hard work and dedication can help us develop our abilities and intelligence. Student will be nominated weekly if they are demonstrating characteristics of GRIT. Student will receive a certificate and shared out.
