Congratulations to Mrs. Angela Skonieczny-Kiwanis Outstanding Teacher Award!

We are so excited to honor Mrs. Angela Skonieczny as the Kiwanis Outstanding Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year. Mrs. Skonieczny, a 4th grade teacher, is an amazing educator in all aspects of the word. Teaching students and shaping students to be the best version of themselves is Angela’s calling. She is putting the needs of her students first and always remembers the “why” behind what we do: our precious kids.

Mrs. Skonieczny is an exemplary colleague, always sharing ideas with others, being willing to ask questions to learn, and having a positive attitude. Angela works hard to know her students as individual learners, so she can best meet their needs.

We are so proud to have her here at McGuire as a Mustang and know that we get to watch greatness daily when we are with her. Angela leaves each student, program, and classroom that she is involved in better because she was a part of it. She is an integral part of our McGuire team and we are incredibly honored to make a difference in the lives of our students daily with Mrs. Angela Skonieczny. Congratulations to Mrs. Skonieczny!

McGuire Veterans Day Assembly

We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to honor those that serve our country and have served our country in the past through our Veterans Day Assembly on Friday, November 11, 2022. Our students were in awe and humbled to meet Veterans that took time to come here to McGuire to see what we have prepared to honor them all. We welcomed more families and Veterans than we have ever had since our assembly first started years ago over at Pullen Elementary and now we carry the tradition here at McGuire. We even had to bring out several more rows of chairs to accommodate all of our guests. What a GREAT problem to have and we loved having a full gym with families and community members. As our students sang songs they prepared and read writing they has practiced, there were many eyes in the gym tearing up with tears of joy and thanksgiving. We are so thankful that we live in the land of the free because of the brave.

Click on the video below to watch our assembly from this past Friday.

Celebrate what you are thankful for!!

  • We have put up a Grateful Turkey and we want it to be FULL of turkey feathers with what we are thankful for as a whole school! If you need more turkey feathers sent home, let your classroom teacher know and we would love to send them home so you can show us what you are thankful for this season. You can write on it at home with regards to what you are thankful for and we would love to put it up at school here on our wall. Decorate it if you want and bring it back to school cut out and we will hang it up for you. Can't wait to see what you are thankful for! Check out our Grateful Turkey so far pictured below that is in our main hallway!

PLEASE HELP OUR SCHOOL!

Hello Families,

Your child brought home a Parent Information Envelope this past week letting you know about a safe and easy way for our school to raise funds for essential tools our students and teachers need to succeed.

The SchoolStore fundraiser is 100% online so there is NO face-to-face selling, handling money, or delivering products. Your participation will take less than 12 minutes, and there are exciting prizes to make it fun for the students.

Here is all you need to do to participate:

1. Go to https://www.schoolstore.net/cgi/SetSchool?SchoolID=0000363158&secheck=on

sign up.

School ID: 0000363158

2. Send form emails inviting family, friends and co-workers to support your child.

3. Return the Envelope with the Student Prize Code to school for your child to get their fun participation prize.

Be sure to ask your child for the Parent Envelope tonight. Your participation will make a difference for our school and teachers!

Thanks,

McGuire Elementary School

NO early drop off until 8:35am

Please make sure to wait until 8:35 before dropping off your student to the playground or in front of the school. We do not have supervision until 8:35 and we want to make sure everyone is safe. Thanks you for your cooperation and help keeping all of our Mustangs safe.

If you drop off after 8:50, please be sure to come into the office to sign your student in for the day before leaving. If you drop off your student to come in without an adult, we will have to call you to come back and sign them in. Unless you sign your student in at the office, the tardy or absence will not be verified which could negatively impact the attendance record, leading to truancy. Thanks!

Please label your student's items

We would love to see our lost & found items claimed, but also to keep the lost & found to a minimum. Families can help us by LABELING EVERYTHING!

Use a permanent marker to label your child's name on lunchboxes, school supplies, backpacks, water bottles, child's clothes (utilize the inside tags of sweatshirts, jackets, shoes, and snowpants). We will periodically check labels and post pictures of items to be claimed - check out the McGuire Facebook page.

Send an extra pair of clothes to stay in your student's locker, place in a ziplock bag or plastic grocery bag, label with their name.

Emergency Safety Drills

During the school year, our buildings are obligated to practice at least 5 Fire Drills, 2 Tornado Drills and 3 Lockdown drills. At times, we do have our YSU Liaison or other police officers from the Police Department assist in our drills. We cover with our students the locations of where to go for each drill, what to do during specific drills, and how to properly evacuate when it is needed.

All classes have been focusing on the "teaching" aspect of doing drills and we have also all read the story, I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared in their class with their teachers. This book focuses on the main components of our safety protocols that we work on with children.

I encourage you to check out our district website where we have information that pertains to our district school safety. Click here to get to the website.

autism awareness & acceptance lessons with cmu

CMU is excited to partner with Fancher and McGuire during the 2022-2023 school year to provide Autism Awareness and Acceptance Lessons to all 4th and 5th grade students. These lessons were already provided to our current 3rd graders last year in the DK-2 buildings.

The lessons will occur monthly beginning this past week. They have been generously funded by the Organization for Autism Research. Lessons will include specific information regarding autism, including how to be aware of the needs of peers with autism, in addition to focusing on the acceptance of differences and similarities of all students.

In addition to the formal lessons, books about children with autism will be read to each class and these books will be donated to the school libraries at the end of the academic year for students to check out and share with family members and friends.

You may check out the following link for more details about the lessons: Kit for Kids | Organization for Autism Research (researchautism.org). If you have specific questions, please feel free to contact AnnMarie Bates at bates4al@cmich.edu or 989-774-5899.

All of our teachers utilize these on a daily basis, so this is a great way to communicate with your teacher. If the change occurs after the school day has begun, then please try to call the office by 3:00 p.m. so we can relay the message in a timely manner. Thanks in advance!
