Giving Back
Timberlake High School Donates over 5,000 lbs of Food
Timberlake High School staff and students showed incredible heart and school spirit during this year’s Backwoods Brawl spirit competition with Bonners Ferry by coming together to collect canned goods and nonperishable food items for those in need. Fueled by enthusiasm, teamwork, and a strong commitment to giving back, Timberlake collected an impressive 1,600 pounds of food this year alone, bringing the four-year total to an amazing 15,353 pounds. This effort highlights not only the friendly rivalry of the Backwoods Brawl, but also the generosity and character of our students and staff. We are incredibly proud of their passion, hard work, and dedication to supporting our community. 💙🥫🙌
Lakeland High School Raises over $26,000 for the Lion's Club Backpack Program and the Lakeland Strong Fund
Lakeland High School students and staff have once again demonstrated their generosity and commitment to service through an outstanding fundraising effort benefiting the Lions Club Backpack Program and the Lakeland Strong Fund. As part of the Battle for the Paddle spirit competition with Sandpoint High School, this meaningful initiative combined school pride with community service. Over the past five years, nearly $144,000 has been raised, including a remarkable total of more than $26,000 raised this year alone. Beyond the dollars raised, this effort helps teach our students the importance of giving back to the community and serving others with compassion and purpose. This success reflects the teamwork and dedication of the entire Lakeland community. Thank you to the Lakeland students, staff, and community for supporting Lakeland High School Student Council in this very important fundraising endeavor. 💚💛👏

Mountain View Wins the First-Ever Hubcap Heist!
Mountain View Alternative School made history by winning the first-ever Hubcap Heist! 🏆 This spirited competition with New Visions Alternative School brought students together for an exciting boys basketball game, a girls volleyball game, and plenty of fun in between, including halftime and between-game challenges like frisbee throwing and an Oreo-eating contest. The entire event was a great display of school pride, friendly competition, and outstanding sportsmanship from both schools. Everyday Excellence
A Hands-On Approach to Learning in Anatomy and Physiology
Students in Lakeland High School’s Anatomy & Physiology dual credit class, taught by Mrs. Schaffer, are taking a hands-on approach to learning the muscular system! Focusing on 26 key muscles essential for stability and movement, students built each muscle with clay on anatomical manikins. This interactive activity allows students to visualize where muscles attach to the skeleton and better understand how they produce movement making anatomy engaging, visual, and fun!
Advanced Learning Programs - Makerspace Event
Our Advanced Learning Programs (ALP) Makerspace Event was a huge success!
All of our Lakeland elementary students across the district were invited to the Makerspace ALP event.
A wide variety of materials were available for students to imagine, design, and create whatever they wanted, along with guided projects that encouraged exploration and problem solving. This hands on experience helped support growing minds by fostering creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration. Students were able to experiment, make choices, and learn through trial and discovery guided by our Lakeland Advanced Learning Programs teachers. The event brought together students and families for an evening of learning and fun, and children left feeling proud of their creations and inspired by what they could build.

Bob has called Rathdrum home for 54 years and has been a steady and trusted leader in education and community life throughout that time. A Boise native and 1961 graduate of Meridian High School, Bob earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Idaho. In 2021, Bob returned once again to district service when he was elected to the Lakeland Board of Trustees. As a trustee, he brought decades of experience, institutional knowledge, and a calm, thoughtful approach to decision-making. His guidance, perspective, and deep understanding of the district were invaluable as the board navigated complex challenges and opportunities. Bob’s commitment was never about recognition, but about doing what was best for students, staff, and families.
Bob’s service to the community extends far beyond the school district, including roles on planning commissions, development councils, advisory groups, the Lakeland Education Foundation, the Rathdrum Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter, and as mayor of Rathdrum from 1973 to 1976. He was named the Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year in 2010.
As Bob’s term as trustee concluded in December, the Lakeland Joint School District extends its sincere gratitude for his leadership, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.
