Tiger Talk
03/11/25

Dear Tiger Parents
We hope to see you this week as we cheer on all of our Tigers for our WCHE Track and Field days. Please check the information on farther down in this newsletter for grade level participation times. This will be a busy day of learning, competing, and welcoming visitors. Visitors and volunteers are welcome to join us on the field, in the gym, and in the cafeteria, if having lunch with your Tiger(s.) When not participating in their own Field Day events, Tigers should be in their classrooms learning. Thus, we ask all visitors and volunteers to refrain from visiting or strolling through our classroom areas, and we ask that you please NOT sign out a sibling from learning to watch his/her sibling's event.
It is that time of year again where we begin to work on our next school year schedule and class lists. I have opened up our parent input form for the 25-26 school year. In making class assignments, our goal is to place each child in a class where he or she can be most successful.
A secondary goal is to also maintain a balance among classes in terms of gender, academic ability, disciplinary and social needs, learning styles, and individual needs of the students. All information shared is confidential and submitted electronically to West Cypress Hills Elementary administration.
We hope to make classroom assignments that will maximize the opportunity for your child’s success. If you have information you would like to have considered in your child’s placement, please complete and submit this form. Please limit your input to the way your child learns and any information we should consider.
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal

Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
The Discovery Program, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is now accepting parent referrals for KINDERGARTEN G/T Screening via this Google form.
The Elementary Discovery Program is a cross-curricular thematic-based pullout program for students in grades K-5. Participating students will demonstrate skills in self-directed learning, thinking, research, and communication as evidenced by the development of innovative products and performances that reflect individuality and creativity and are advanced in relation to students of similar age, experience, or environment. To be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. Assessment opportunities are made available once per school year.
If you feel your child is a good candidate for the G/T screening process, please fill out the link below. The deadline to register is March 13 at 3 pm. More information about the program can be found on the Lake Travis ISD Gifted & Talented website.

News from Nurse Kate
Happy almost spring break! If you happen to spend any of your break weeding out things your Tiger(s) outgrew, please keep me in mind. I need new or gently used shorts for both girls and boys in small and medium sizes, and I need new underwear for girls and boys in small and medium sizes to restock our clinic. Accidents happen! If you have some things you can donate to the WCHE Tiger Clinic, please drop them off any time at your convenience.
As we continue to focus on maintaining the health and well-being of our school, we wanted to share some helpful information about head lice prevention. Head lice can be a concern, especially during times when children are in close contact with each other, but with some simple practices, we can reduce the risk.
Here are some practical tips to help prevent head lice:
Avoid Head-to-Head Contact
Encourage children to avoid head-to-head contact during playtime, sports activities, or group settings, as this is the most common way lice are transmitted.Do Not Share Personal Items
Remind children not to share items such as combs, hairbrushes, hats, scarves, jackets/sweatshirts, or headphones, as lice can spread through these personal belongings.Regularly Check for Lice
Perform regular checks, especially after activities where children are in close contact with others. Early detection is key to preventing the spread of lice.Maintain Clean Hair Hygiene
Encourage children to wash their hair regularly. Keeping hair tied back in a ponytail or braid can also make it harder for lice to transfer.Treat Items Properly
In case of a suspected infestation, wash bed linens, clothing, and personal items that have come into contact with the infested person. Drying them in a hot dryer (at least 130°F, for 20 minutes) is effective in killing lice and eggs.Educate Children
Teach children to be mindful of their surroundings, and to avoid close contact with others' hair or personal items.
By following these simple steps, we can all work together to minimize the risk of lice outbreaks and ensure a healthy environment for everyone. If you have any questions or need more information, feel free to reach out.
Thank you for your attention and support!
