The Hedgcoxe Library

Library classes are in full swing, and our Hounds have already checked out over 2500 books from the Hedgcoxe Library! Each week, your students are learning how to search our online catalog and how to locate books on the shelves. They are also accessing and using databases for academic purposes as well as for personal inquiry. Our students recently participated in the global Hour of AI week, formerly known as Hour of Code, during which they enjoyed playing online games that demonstrated how machine learning works. Upcoming library lessons will feature Hispanic Heritage Month, Winnie the Pooh's 100th Anniversary, Digital Citizenship & Anti-Bullying Week, and other lessons that create curricular connections between the classroom and the library.

Mark your calendars for our upcoming PTA-sponsored Fall Scholastic Book Fair, which will take place in the Hedgcoxe Library October 26-30. A few days before the fair, a link will be sent to all parents requesting help working shifts at the fair. Book fair packets will be sent home the week before the fair with information about featured titles, shopping schedule, a special event, and more! This is a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping and stock your students up on books they love to read. Thank you so much for supporting our school by supporting the Fall Book Fair!

Our library supports students who would like to read titles from Texas Library Association's 2x2 Reading List (for Kinder through 2nd graders) and the Bluebonnet Reading List (for 3rd through 5th graders) each year. Reading logs for the respective programs have been provided to students as well as emailed to parents. The library has many of the 2x2 and Bluebonnet books in our collection that students can check out, and many of the titles are available on SORA e-books and audiobooks as well. Participating students who turn in completed reading logs will be recognized and rewarded in the spring (April for Bluebonnet readers and May for 2x2 readers). Please let Mrs. Berry know if you have any questions about the 2x2 or Bluebonnet reading programs.

Did you know that your student can access their Webdesk from any browser? The Webdesk link is available on our school's website homepage HERE. Students should select the option of signing in with PISD Network Login and then sign in with their PISD network username and password (the same ones they use at school every day). Once students are in their Webdesk, they can access the Library Digital Resources folder, which contains the LS2 catalog of our library collection, multiple databases, and SORA e-books and audiobooks.
