Message from the Principal
JAJHS Families,
I hope you and your family have had a great week. We appreciated the chance to gather as a staff on Monday for a full day of professional development. Our teachers participated in sessions focused on safety, professionalism, education visioning, and much more.
Around the building, we had four great days of presentations, projects, lessons, and activities.
Please take time to review the important information below in our newsletter.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ryan Malany
Principal

Annual JAJHS Pumpkin Drop
We are eagerly preparing for the annual JAJHS Pumpkin Drop at the end of October. We are again partnering with AEP Ohio for this fun and memorable event for our students. During Advisory, students will be collaborating together to design and decorate a pumpkin to represent their advisory. Pumpkins will be judged in a number of categories. The culminating event will include AEP Ohio dropping the pumpkins from their largest bucket truck in Central Ohio!
We need your help, please! If you are able to donate a pumpkin or two, please sign up here. Donated medium to large pumpkins should be dropped off in the JAJHS no later than the end of the day on Thursday, 10/17. Thank you for your help!
Stay Safe - Joining Together
The safety of our students and staff is one of our primary concerns and any threats of violence, even if deemed not credible, are taken very seriously. After several recent school tragedies across the United States, we felt it was important to remind you about our safety initiatives.
Please know that all threats against our students and staff are taken seriously and thoroughly investigated through our partnership with local law enforcement.
Threats against schools are treated very seriously, and students who are determined to have made such threats face consequences through our school’s Code of Conduct, as well as potential legal, financial, and criminal consequences.
This is an opportune time to discuss this situation with your children and emphasize that there are severe consequences of such actions, even if the threat is made in jest. Please remind your children about the importance of reporting any suspicious or potentially threatening activity to an adult as soon as possible. The Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) partnered with the Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association and the Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police to create awareness to this issue through a video PSA called Joining Together for School Safety. Please watch it with your child.
Jonathan Alder Local School District is now using the Stay Safe. Speak Up! Student Safety Reporting System (powered by PublicSchoolWORKS). Stay Safe. Speak Up! is a comprehensive reporting tool that allows students, parents, and staff to submit safety concerns to school officials. You will find a reporting button at the top of our website homepage. Please also see this letter to learn more about reporting safety concerns quickly and easily to district and building administrators. Crisis response professionals are available 24/7 to assist with getting concerns to local law enforcement and schools for investigation.

Medications at School
Sometimes parents ask that school personnel administer medication to their child during the school day. When this is necessary, we require written permission and instructions from the parent and in some instances from the doctor. The required form must be completed and turned in to the junior high office with the medication to be administered.
There is a decorated box located in the JAJHS office for the Alder vs. London Battle Of The Cans. Please drop off all non-perishable food items by October 4th!
