MUMS Family Newsletter
October 13th, 2023
While it was a short school week, it was a busy school week.
We celebrated our second whole school assembly on Tuesday to kick off the Color Fun Run! Within that assembly we had grade level relay races and the grade who had the shortest time, got $100 donated to their grade! In case you didn't see this on our Instagram page, our 7th graders won the challenge, followed by 6th graders and then 8th graders!
Please see below, important information about the Color Fun Run and direct any questions to Dustin Hunt dhunt@acsdvt.org or Friends of MUMS with questions.
Enjoy the weekend and reach out with any questions or concerns.
If you have questions, please reach out to us at mwisell@acsdvt.org (Michaela)

From our MYP Coordinators
In 8th grade Language and Literature classes, all students on Teams 3 & 4 are creating six-word memoirs, capturing aspects of their lives, belief systems, and passions in only six words. This writing experiment ties seamlessly into their unit’s statement of inquiry, which asks students to make precise, intentional craft decisions to convey their ideas when faced with a set of parameters, or specific requirements and limitations. Check out a few of our students’ six-word memoirs below. If you had only six words to convey something about who you are, what would these six words be?
Have a great weekend,
Pam Quinn and Eileen Sears, MYP Coordinators
Unified Soccer Team Spotlight!
On Oct 11, 2023 a group of intrepid soccer players ventured to the unified soccer tournament held at Norwich University in Northfield Vermont. The 12 players from mixed grades and skill levels were coached by Justin Martelle and JT Henley. In the games they played our heroes found themselves down early on. The team rallied behind the excellent cheering of the sidelines and determination of the players to become victorious.
Upon making it to the championship game MUMS was down early on. Again the team rallied, coming back with two unanswered goals. The final goal kicked with such power and conviction that it knocked over the goal, thus securing the gold medal for the team! The level of team work, care and courageousness and was matched only by the excitement and fun that was had by all. Already our unified team is looking forward to future events this year along with returning to defend our title next year. A big thank you to all the teachers and parents that helped to make the day such success! Give these kids a big shout out, when you see them in the community!
Memo. From Nurse Palko
REMINDER
Flu and covid are on the rise!
If your child is exhibiting any of the following symptoms PLEASE DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL.
Fever 100.4 and greater
Chills
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Flu like symptoms- general malaise, body aches
The student must be symptom free for at least 24 hours (without the use of medications) before returning to school.
It is strongly encouraged to test your child for covid. Unfortunately, the school is unable to provide covid tests to students at this time, we should be getting more in- but a very minimal amount. Please check your local pharmacy, online, or the local health department. The federal government is also offering 4 free covid tests to each family, see the following website www.covid.gov
Hand hygiene! Encourage your child to hand wash frequently and utilize hand sanitizer. Cover their mouths when coughing or sneezing. Avoid close contact with people who are sick. And don't forget to schedule your child for their annual flu shot and covid booster!
Following these guidelines will help stop widespread flu and covid throughout the school. If you have any questions please reach out. Thank you!
