9.4.26 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families:
We look forward to seeing you all tonight at the Ice Cream Social. The event starts at 6:00 and concludes at 8:00. Also, I want to remind you all that we will not have school on Monday as our District observes the labor day holiday. Classes will resume on Tuesday.
Fire Drill Tuesday: we are having our 2nd fire drill Tuesday afternoon. The first fire drill was in the morning to ensure that our morning Pre-K classes had an opportunity to practice how to exit the building safely and the 2nd one will support the afternoon Pre-K classes. Some students have anxiety when the hear the fire alarm so please let your children know that we are practicing our safety drill so we can teach them how to respond if we ever have a real emergency. Drills build skills!
Teaching and Learning Update: I am sharing a short video that explains how parents can build fluency skills when their students are reading at home. Last week I shared tips for decoding and next week I will share a video explaining how you can help your students build strong reading comprehension skills. The pathway to literacy starts with decoding (phonics skills) then transitions to fluency which ultimately supports strong reading comprehension. I also plan to share math support videos at the year progresses. Thanks for being partners in your student's learning!
Mark Your Calendar! The Father's Walk/Donuts with Dads is September 17th. The Father's Walk is sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative. From 8-9 am we will have donuts, juice and coffee for all of the fathers or father figures (grandfather, uncles, step-fathers, or older brothers) who bring their students to school on the 17th. Weather permitting, the event will take place on the playground. We always have a great turnout and hope you can join us!
Have a great weekend,
Mr. Mc Nichols
