Bearkat Families,

As we welcome a new month, there is so much to be thankful for and celebrate at GCISD! October was filled with incredible accomplishments, and our Bearkats continue to give us reasons to be proud both inside and outside the classroom.

From our Boys Cross Country team earning a trip to State to our FFA Trailer Build-Off team bringing home a championship in Houston, our students are making history! We also celebrated Ana Luna's semifinalist appearance at National FFA. These accomplishments are a reflection of the hard work, dedication, and Bearkat pride that make our little school so special.

Inside our classrooms, students and teachers continue to work hard, grow, and support one another. One of my favorite moments recently was hearing from our Superintendent Ambassadors about the strong connections they feel with their peers and the support they receive from their teachers. Hearing students speak so positively about their school reminds us that we are building more than academic success. We are building a school family!

November brings opportunities to celebrate our students, cheer on our Bearkats, and reflect on the many blessings we share. As we approach Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for our dedicated staff, supportive families, and a community that continues to show up for our kids.

Thank you for being part of what makes Glasscock County ISD such a special place to learn and grow. I hope November brings your family moments of gratitude, laughter, and time together.

It's a great day to be a Bearkat!

Proud Superintendent,

Mallory Marr

Why use the Fast Pass? Once you're pre-registered, you can skip the line to have your ID scanned! Simply show your QR code, and your visitor badge will be printed and ready to go.

IMPORTANT: All guests will check in at the auditorium upon arrival. If you DO NOT use the Fast Pass to pre-register, you MUST bring your ID to check in for the Veterans Day Celebration.

Construction Update!

Exciting progress is happening at GCISD! We are preparing for an increase in construction activity as deliveries of building materials are headed our way! We are also scheduled to pour the west side of the slab this Wednesday, marking another exciting step forward in our construction project!

At this time, we do not anticipate any changes or disruptions to our normal traffic flows. However, families and staff should expect an increase in delivery trucks entering and exiting the construction area.

Please remain alert, drive slowly, and use extra caution around construction vehicles. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue making progress on these exciting improvements to our campus!

Planning for the Inside!

While construction continues on the outside, we are also busy planning for what will go inside our new spaces! We are working closely with CADCO to select furniture, furnishings, and equipment that will help bring our new classrooms and learning spaces to life.

We will also be working with a teacher committee throughout this process to ensure the needs of our teachers and students are considered in the planning and selection of furnishings. Their input will be valuable in creating functional, welcoming, and engaging learning environments that support instruction and meet the day-to-day needs of our classrooms.

It is exciting to see the vision for these new facilities continue to come together, both inside and out!

Book Character Day

Rain or shine, our little Bearkats weren't going to let a little wet weather stop the fun! GCES was filled with creativity, laughter, and some of our favorite book characters as students celebrated the joy of reading! From costumes to fun activities at the complex, our Kats had a wonderful time bringing their favorite stories to life! A special shoutout to Mr. Bryant for going the extra mile to keep our students dry as they traveled to the complex. We love seeing our students make memories while celebrating the magic of books!

Extracurricular Events in Action

History was made at Garden City High School, not once, but TWICE last week!

Our boys' cross country team is headed to the STATE meet after securing a 3rd-place team finish at Regionals! What an incredible accomplishment for these young men!

Meanwhile, in Houston, our Trailer Build-Off team brought home the championship at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (RodeoHouston) Trailer Build-Off! Their hard work, teamwork, and determination during the intense eight-hour competition paid off!

Two incredible accomplishments in one week! We couldn't be prouder of these students and their advisors for representing Garden City High School so well!

Delmer and Travis - 100 Years of Combined Service

Friday night was extra special at Garden City as we had the opportunity to honor two incredible men who have been part of Bearkat football for decades! Delmer and Travis have dedicated a combined 100 years of service to our Friday night lights! Delmer has been the voice of the Bearkats for 55 years, while Travis has served alongside him as his spotter for 45 years. Generations of Bearkats have grown up hearing Delmer's voice from the press box, with Travis right by his side. Their dedication, loyalty, and love for Garden City are what make our small-town traditions so special. It was an honor to recognize these two men and celebrate the lasting impact they have made on our school and community. Thank you, Delmer and Travis, for 100 years of Bearkat pride!
