Capital Bond Prop # 1 - June 11
June 11, 2025
Dear Hastings Families and Staff,
We’re excited to launch the first installment of our three-part series spotlighting the key propositions in the upcoming Capital Bond Vote on Tuesday, June 17.
Today’s focus: Bond Proposition #1 – District-Wide Infrastructure Improvements ($11,254,780)
This proposal includes essential upgrades to our schools’ mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and masonry systems. By replacing aging equipment and addressing critical infrastructure needs, we aim to boost building performance, increase efficiency, and ensure our facilities continue to serve students and staff for years to come. The original building was constructed in 1902, with the Farragut and Washington buildings added in 1911. The Mt. Hope addition followed in 1925, and in 1931, the central connection and School Street wing were built—making these improvements vital to preserving and modernizing our century-old campus.
Stay tuned as we dive into each proposition and the possibilities they bring to our district!
Capital Bond Vote: A Smart Investment in Our Schools and Community
Proposition # 1 focuses on essential school upgrades—improving safety, efficiency, and the long-term health of our buildings. The bond includes critical updates to outdated mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. All of which need to meet modern efficiency and safety standards.
“Many of our facilities require necessary maintenance and code-related improvements to keep our schools safe and functional,” said Business Official Maureen Caraballo.
The district will also repoint aging masonry and address structural repairs.
“We’re preserving the integrity of our buildings for years to come,” she said. “These improvements will help prevent more costly issues in the future.”
Board of Education President Alexander DalPiaz highlighted the financial strategy behind the bond.
“New York State will reimburse about 47% of the total bond cost through Building Aid—essentially dollar-matching our investment,” he said.
Importantly, there will be no tax impact to residents until at least 2029, when the district begins making debt payments.
“No bond is easy or cost-free,” DalPiaz added, “but this one is a thoughtful commitment to our students and staff. It helps us build the kind of schools we want—and need—for the future.”
DalPiaz also noted the bond’s value to the broader community.
“This is a commitment to all Hastings homeowners,” he said. “Strong schools keep our community strong and help attract new families—protecting home values for everyone.”
With voter support, this bond will ensure Hastings schools remain safe, modern, and welcoming for generations to come.
