Letter from the Principal

Dear HMS Families,

Congratulations to our Math Team who competed in the Math Counts competition this weekend.

This week we are excited for the Science Showcase on Thursday, February 26th from 5:45 to 7:15 at Heritage. All grade levels will be represented, but our 8th grade roller coaster projects will also be on display.

We are also looking forward to the Berwyn Band Festival, which will be held on Saturday, February 28th at Heritage. We know our band will sound amazing during their performance, and we wish them the best of luck.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is available for families to take. Click on the following link to begin http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/. For the county, please write Cook and look for Heritage Middle School - Berwyn. The survey will be open until March 13, 2026, and we need 20% of our families to complete it. Right now, we only 8% of our families who have completed this. Please take a few minutes to fill it out; we greatly appreciate your feedback.

8th grade families please see information below about Best of Berwyn and how your child could be considered for this recognition.

Right around the corner in March, we will begin the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). Students will need USB-C headphones to complete these assessments. Please check with your student to ensure they have a working pair of headphones. They will need to have them by March 18th.

This week, the goal is to have perfect attendance. Those who do will get 50 PBIS Points, Friday Dress Down, and be entered into the raffle for a Canes free meal certificate. Any student who has perfect attendance or misses only one day in February will earn 250 PBIS points. Last week for our 250 point incentive.

Best of Berwyn

If any 8th grade student would like to be considered to represent Heritage, they must complete the linked Google form stating why they should represent Heritage in the 2026 competition. From the forms submitted, eight students will be selected to go on and represent Heritage Middle School in the 2026 competition.

This google form is due at the end of the day on Monday, February 23rd.

Promotion Picture Proofs - Delivered

Promotion pictures proofs have been delivered to Heritage. All picture orders will then be shipped directly to your house if you order.

When you receive the proof, you will be able to select the composite picture online. If you don't make a selection, a pose will be chosen for you. Promotion picture proofs do not need to be returned to the school, and if you would like to pay by check or cash, please call Van Gogh's customer service at 847-382-2282 extension 7.

Yearbooks - On Sale Now!

HMS 25/26 yearbooks are officially available! If you are interested in purchasing one, use this link. Please make sure to save your receipt and share with your student that you have purchased a yearbook for them. They will be delivered to the school in May to be distributed to your student before leaving for the year. PBIS Rewards

We utilize an app called PBIS Rewards where students earn points throughout the school year for being Responsible, Respectful and Safe. We have a PBIS store that we open for students to purchase fun items with their points. We also do raffles, field trips and a winter extravaganza that students can utilize their points throughout the year. We encourage students to use their points by the end of the year as they do not roll over!

StopIt

This week, students will download STOPit to their iPads. This is an online application that Heritage students have access to. This application allows students to anonymously report incidents of bullying, misconduct or general concerns. All reports go to the support service team and administration, which allows us to act quickly and in real time to any concerns or incidents.

Breakfast & Lunch

Students at Heritage receive free breakfast and lunch each day if they choose to participate, or they may bring their own lunch from home. As a healthy school, we ask that students do not bring pop, energy drinks, or large bags of snacks.

Breakfast will be served each morning before students head to their Period 1 class. Lunch will take place at the scheduled time according to the bell schedule, and students will also have the option to participate in recess during their lunchtime.
