A Message from the Principal Williams

Dear Imagine Leeland Families,

Welcome to a new school year! This year, our focus is on “Constructing Character and Building Excellence.” The first two weeks have been wonderful as we get to know our scholars, learn their strengths, and begin developing strong relationships that will guide their growth throughout the year.

At Imagine Leeland, we know that helping our scholars grow both academically and personally is what makes our school community strong. Every day, students have opportunities to practice fairness, perseverance, respect, and trustworthiness—values that guide their choices and interactions.

We are also committed to nurturing excellence in learning. By supporting our scholars’ growth in the classroom and beyond, we create an environment where they can thrive, explore, and reach their full potential. Starting the year strong sets the tone for continued success, and I am excited to partner with you as we support our Eagles in growing their character and building excellence together!

Yours in Partnership,

Principal Williams

Upcoming Testing

As we begin the new school year, our scholars will participate in several important assessments. These assessments help us better understand each child’s academic strengths and areas for growth so that we can provide targeted instruction and support.

Assessments Overview:

  • i-Ready (Math, Grades K–8): An adaptive online test that personalizes questions based on your child’s responses, helping teachers identify math skills your child has mastered and skills they are ready to learn.

  • STAR (Reading and Math, Grades K–12): A short, computer-adaptive assessment that provides immediate insights into your child’s reading and math progress, growth, and readiness.

  • KRA (Kindergarten Readiness Assessment): Administered to kindergarten students, this assessment measures early literacy, math, physical well-being, social foundations, and language development to ensure children are prepared for school.

Testing Schedule:

  • STAR Reading and Math: Week of September 8, 2025

  • i-Ready Math: Week of September 15, 2025

How Parents Can Help at Home:

  • Ensure your child gets a good night’s rest before each testing day.

  • Provide a nutritious breakfast to help with focus and energy.

  • Encourage your child to do their best without stress—remind them it’s about showing what they know and learning what they need.

  • Reinforce the importance of taking their time and reading directions carefully.

  • Create a calm morning routine to help your child arrive at school on time and ready to focus.

Instructional Schedules

We are excited to share an overview of our instructional schedules for both middle and elementary school scholars. Our goal is to provide a balanced schedule that prioritizes core academic instruction while also allowing students to explore their interests through electives and specials.

Middle School (Grades 6–8):

  • Scholars engage in a 6-period day that includes the four core content areas: Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

  • In addition, students participate in electives such as Music, Art, Health, and Physical Education.

  • Middle school scholars also take Spanish and a Resource Class that reinforces instructional best practices while strengthening mathematical practices.

  • You may access your scholar’s full schedule through ParentVue.

Elementary School (Grades K–5):

  • Elementary scholars engage in a departmentalized schedule.

    • One teacher provides Reading and Social Studies instruction.

    • Another teacher provides Math and Science instruction.

  • In addition, elementary students attend specials classes on a rotating basis, which include: Art, Music, Health, STEM, and Physical Education.

  • The Elementary Specials Schedule is posted below for your reference.

We encourage families to review schedules regularly in ParentVue and talk with your scholar about their daily learning experiences. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure a successful school year!

Chromebooks & Technology

Scholars will not bring home their chromebooks. We have collected student chromebooks, and will be keeping them in school for students to use during the school day as an educational resource. Students will not bring home their chromebooks for homework this year! Students will not need to carry the devices to and from school!

On Monday, September 8, 2025, all students in grades 2–8 will participate in a Password Check during a scheduled class period. This process will ensure that every student is prepared for upcoming online assessments and instructional platforms.

  • Students who have forgotten their current passwords will be issued a new password.

  • Passwords will be provided prior to the start of testing to avoid any interruptions.

  • For Kindergarten and 1st grade students, passwords will be reset and reissued to ensure smooth access.

Once the Password Reset has taken place every student must memorize their email login and password - it is essential - they will use these every day. Parents if you could help at home, we would greatly appreciate it. - Many of our younger students do not know how to spell their full name, or both of their last names. Students must be able to spell their full name in order to log into the computer. If you could please work to make sure your child is able to spell their FULL name - and if they have 2 last names, they need to know how to spell BOTH of their last names in order to log into the computers.

All students need to bring a pair of WIRED/ plug in headphones to be used on their

chromebooks. These will be left in school each day. This was posted on each grade levels materials list.

Students will be using CANVAS, not Google Classroom this year. Please be kind as teachers make

the transition

Introduction to Core Values and Positive Behavior Expectations

At Imagine Leeland, we are committed to fostering a positive and respectful school environment where every student can thrive. This school year, our students will focus on demonstrating our Core Values:

  • Fairness

  • Trustworthiness

  • Perseverance

  • Respect

Students will have the opportunity to earn positive behavior points when they demonstrate these values throughout the school day. Parents can monitor their child’s points in Class Dojo.

The points collected will go toward monthly PBIS events, where students may purchase a ticket to participate. In addition, our Student of the Month recognition will be based on:

  • The most points collected,

  • Teacher recommendation, and

  • Peer (student) recommendation.

We also want to share how misbehavior will be addressed:

  • Minor behaviors will be documented using a Student Minor Incident Report.

  • Severe behaviors will be documented using a PS-74 form.

  • Students who engage in behaviors outlined in the PGCPS Code of Conduct may face consequences such as loss of privileges (including PBIS events), parent contact, detention, In-School Suspension (ISS), or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS).

Please find attached the PGCPS Code of Conduct for your review.
