This month (starting the week of September 8), our students will take iReady assessments in reading and math. iReady is not a test you “study” for—it’s a tool that helps us see where each student is in their learning. The questions adjust as students answer, which gives us a clear picture of both strengths and areas that need support.

How we use the results:

  • Teachers use the data to tailor lessons, making sure students get the right level of challenge.

  • We track growth over the year to celebrate progress and spot areas where extra help might be needed.

  • The information guides schoolwide decisions about instruction and resources.

Why it’s important to do your best:
These tests help us help you. The more accurate the results, the better we can support each student’s success. We ask that students give their best effort—slow down, stay focused, and take it seriously. This isn’t about grades; it’s about growth.

Together, we can make sure every Wildcat is set up for success—Every way. Every day. Every one.

You can read more about what iReady is and how it works HERE, or see the .pdf below.

Students can see their testing rooms HERE. It will be posted on classroom doors as well. The schedule will be posted in next week's newsletter.

Picture Day for Slater High School is scheduled for Wednesday, September 24.

Seniors, this is when you will take your Senior Composite photo. Drapes and Suit tops are provided. Ladies need to wear a tank top to wear under the drape - you'll need to be able to slide the straps down, as the drape goes off the shoulders. Gentlemen, please wear or bring a white tee shirt to wear under the white dress shirt. You can check out the 2025 Senior Composite in Ms. Mindy's office to see what the finished product looks like. I will request more information (like how to order a group composite) and will pass it along as I receive it.

This event's Order Code is 0126VZ.

Online ordering is available before and after Picture Day. Shipping and handling charges may apply to orders placed after Picture Day.

Debunking Breakfast Myths Debunking Breakfast Myths

Email from J Clem to HS students on August 26, 2025:

Good morning, Wildcats!

I was talking to Mrs. Stephens, our new food director, and learned that our HS breakfast participation numbers are lower than previous years. I talked to a few students this morning and may have uncovered why...

Myth: You have to eat breakfast in the cafeteria.

TRUTH: HS students do NOT have to eat in the cafeteria (you're welcome to, if you want to eat with a friend who has a different first hour class than you).

If you want to eat >FREE< breakfast, you'll go through the kitchen line to collect your tray and will come into the cafeteria to provide your PIN (Mrs. Greg and Ms. Irwin are usually who will enter that into the computer). You can then take your food to your first hour class (finish up by the 7:58 bell), or you can eat in the cafeteria. *

* the only exception is first hour PE - we're not bringing food into the gym. Please talk to Coach Falls about where to eat.

Menus are posted in the SHS STUDENT WILDCAT ROAR each week.

Lunch and breakfast are FREE for HS students. If you want seconds or something from the Grab & Go, you'll have to have money on your lunch account. You can add money to your account on the TeacherEase portal or by bringing money (cash or check) to Ms. Mindy in the HS Office.

Handbook Highlight Handbook Highlight

User uploaded image

The Handbook Highlight is a recap of a handbook policy or entry that our Students/Adults need to be aware of. If I'm taking the time to include it, it's something to pay attention to - either because I'm seeing that people aren't clear on it, people aren't complying with it, or I'm about to crack down on it.

GOOD STANDING
To be considered a student in good standing, a student must not be in violation of the attendance policy, have outstanding discipline referrals OR appear on the current F list.

In order to participate in extracurricular events including (but not limited to): dances, field trips, school-sanctioned sports events; a student must be in good standing.

Students in grades 6-12 that are not in good standing will have closed lunch and be required to sign in daily in the cafeteria.

**The first list (Grades ONLY) will run on Monday, September 8.**

HS students aren't to watch Netflix - or other video platforms - in classrooms, even if you're done with your work. You should have enough to do in each hour that you don't have time to pull it up, and if you do complete something early, you can utilize our Library and check out a book or work on a curricular assignment for another class.

HS students, remember that you can get FREE breakfast AND lunch every day (see menus below)!

To get free breakfast, just go through the kitchen to get your tray (you can put what you don't want in the share bins for other students), then enter your PIN with the adult past the salad bar station in the cafeteria.

To get free lunch, go through the kitchen for the hot lunch option or the salad bar line in the cafeteria. Make sure to get a drink from the cooler and give your PIN number to the adult at the counter.

You can get extras, grab & go snacks, or food from the warmer as well, but you have to have money on your lunch account for that. You can add money to account in several ways:

  • On the TeacherEase app (Parent Portal side)
  • Bring Ms. Mindy money/check in the HS office
  • Bring a credit/debit card for Ms. Mindy to run for the specified amount in the HS office
