Good People,
We look forward to welcoming your student on Tuesday morning! Our staff has diligently prepared to build relationships and help your student learn. We appreciate your partnership in educating these beautiful people. Please see the staff photo below for a photo of most of our staff!
There may be some feelings of fear or apprehension about school after the tragedy that occurred this week. Our school has a school counselor(Mr. Jeremy), two social workers(Ms Becky and Ms Parker) and multiple school-based therapists to support our students. Our School Nurses' office is a place where students can go if they need help. Our School Psychologist, Ms. Hogan, has provided some links here for you to consider:

Finally, thank you to the Parent Teacher Association(PTA) for sponsoring a school clean up, ice cream at the open house and a staff breakfast. We continue to be grateful for your support!
In Partnership,
Naida Grussing-Neitzel, Ed.S.
Principal
Maria Sanford Middle School.
Back to School Information
Please see the last two weeks' newsletter for more information about back to school!
Assessment: At Sanford Middle School, we believe that learning is life-long and we are preparing students to have the skills and traits to keep learning after they have left us. We believe and expect that all students have the ability to achieve at increasingly higher levels. Learning is not linear or fixed, so students should have an opportunity to demonstrate growth in proficiency and improvement over time. read more about or assessment practices here:

World Language: Most students in 6th grade will explore multiple world languages this year. This means that the language they picked may not be the one that they start with this year but they will get a rotation of that language later in the year.
Physical Education and Health: This year Physical Education 6 and Healthy Lifestyles (Physical Education and Health) will be a year long course (no more rotating by quarter).
Back Packs: We highly encourage students to use their locker and put their backpack in the locker.
