What is the school schedule?
Our Soft Start is at 8:55am and classes begin at 9:10am. School ends at 4pm.
We have a delayed start on Fridays. Soft Start is at 9:40am and classes begin at 9:55am.
What do I do if my student is absent or tardy?
To report your student absent or tardy, mark it in PikMyKid or call the Attendance Line. Even if you notify your child’s teacher about an absence, the office also needs to be notified. If the absence has not been reported to the office, phone calls will be made to parents to verify the absence. If your student is tardy, please make sure they check in at the office for a pass before going to class.
What if I need to change how my child gets home for the day?
If plans change, update your student’s pick-up method in PikMyKid by 3pm.
We ask that you do all Early Pick-Ups by 3:30pm to help avoid delays at the end of the day.
What happens if my child gets sick at school?
Students who are feeling ill are sent to the health office for a temperature check and/or to rest. If we determine the child is too ill to remain in class, parents will be notified to come pick them up. For this reason, it is critical that emergency contact information is kept up to date for your child.
Do not send your child to school if they aren’t feeling well before school starts. They need to be fever free (without medication) and no vomiting for 24 hours and no diarrhea for 48 hours before returning.
Can my child take medication at school?
ALL medication that needs to be taken at school (prescription and over the counter) must be kept in the office in a locked drawer. A medical release form with the doctor’s and parent’s signatures must be on file - both are required by State Law. Children’s acetaminophen is no longer allowed to be given at any time without a doctor’s release form for a specific issue (tooth ache, broken arm, etc). Students are not allowed to carry medication with them at school at any time.
Does PLE have a nurse?
DCSD has registered nurses who serve all of Douglas County. They monitor compliance of State Health laws (including immunizations), handle students with health concerns, teach staff members health care related issues, and oversee the health operations of each school. The office staff have been trained to handle minor first aid. The school nurse can be contacted at any time on her school cell phone in case of an emergency.
How do I find out if there is school during severe weather conditions?
Call the Weather Hotline at 303-387-SNOW (7669) after 5am to find out any schedule changes. You may also access the district’s web site at: www.dcsdk12.org. Local TV and radio announcements will also be made. You will receive an email, call and/or text message if you sign up for notifications.
If there is a Lightning Dismissal, yellow flags will be placed in the pick-up lane.
Please DO NOT call the school to find out this information.
What information do I need to include in notes sent to school?
Please write your child’s full name, teacher’s name, date and your name on all notes. If someone other than yourself is picking up your child, please include their full name and a phone number where they can be reached. If this person is not on your student’s emergency contacts/pick up list this note is for a one time pick up only. Anyone picking up a child from school needs to bring a valid, physical photo ID with them. You can also email this information to: PLERegistar@dcsdk12.org
Drop off/picking up of students?
DO NOT drop off your children before 8:55am (9:40a on Fridays). Students must be picked up by 4:00p when the school day ends. There is no supervision for students before or after these times. If you are going to be early or late, you need to make arrangements with a trusted person of your choice to drop off or pick up your student.
What does my child need to ride the bus?
Visit the Transportation website to order a SMART Tag (bus pass) for your student.
There is a $1 fee each way, each day to ride the bus.
Can my child ride home on a friend’s bus?
No. The parent you are sending them home with will need to pick them up that day.
Where do I park when visiting the school or when I drop off/pick up my student?
Park in the South (off Ponderosa, by the playground) or North (off Pine Lane) parking lots.
No parents should park, drop off or pick up students in the middle staff parking lot or park in the drop off/pick up lane.
May I bring in an item my student has forgotten?
While we stress the importance of students being responsible, sometimes the need arises when items need to be brought in during the day. Parents should leave these items in the office and the student will be called down to pick them up.
What happens if my student forgets lunch money?
You may go to www.myschoolbucks.com to add money to your student’s lunch account. Balances can also be checked on the My School Bucks web site. It might take 24 hours to see the balance increase.
Can my child bring toys to school?
We discourage any toys being brought to school. We will not be held responsible for any items such as electronic games, tablets or collectibles being lost.
What happens to lost & found items?
All lost items are put in lost and found. Jewelry and small items are kept in the office. Everything not claimed will be donated to a local charity in December and May. Students need to check for items that may be theirs. Marking children’s items with their name makes it easier to find the owner.
