MISSION

VISION
Lindblom Math & Science Academy will empower every student to excel academically, grow personally, and thrive as engaged citizens in an ever-changing world.
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BANKS
Dear Eagles and Families,
We welcome you back to three full weeks of school before the Winter Break, with the last week dedicated to final exams. Our final exam schedule models a regular attendance day, but it ensures that students arenโt overwhelmed with back to back finals all on the same day. We believe that it is within the best interest of the students that parents utilize the following suggestions to support student success.
Check JumpRope as often as possible
Confer with your student daily about their classes/assignments
Email your student's teachers for any concerning matters
Avoid early dismissals and late arrivals
Avoid student absences as much as possible in these last three weeks
Something to keep in mind is that Final Exams/Projects do not have opportunities for revisions/retakes. With that being the case, it is of extreme importance that students are spending time studying. Students should sign up for the flexes in which support is needed. Lastly, the Writing Center Tutors are available during all lunch periods.
Sincerely,
Lindblom Administration

National Honor Society applications have been released to all 11th and 12th-grade students and are due December 6th. Induction will be based on a scoring rubric that allocates points based on Service, Leadership, Scholarship, and Character. While there is a minimum GPA requirement of an unweighted 3.3, all upperclassmen can apply.
LMSA Science Resources
Starting second semester, students with an unweighted GPA of 3.0 after 7 semesters can qualify for college-ready coursework without having to take a placement exam or have the requisite SAT score. Please consider if you have students who can take advantage of this increased opportunity to participate in early college coursework and if this new qualifier would make additional spring dual credit coursework more feasible.

BE EMPOWERED
What story do you have to tell? What do hope, dignity, resistance, healing, identity, equality, and interconnectedness look like to you?
In the spirit of the upcoming exhibitions Project a Black Planet: The Art and Culture of Panafrica and After the End of the World: Pictures from Panafrica, we invite Chicago-area teens of all cultures and backgrounds, ages 13โ19, to create a work of art that reflects the way they see themselves in a multicultural, interconnected worldโusing photography, graphic design, digital poster design, or digital collage.
All submissions will be showcased virtually and 30 selected artworks will be displayed in the Ryan Learning Centerโs McCormick Foundation Gallery. Curators' choice will select 3 winners to receive scholarships to SAIC Summer Intensive program and Cash prizes!!

SAFETY UPDATE
Itโs the time of year when the days are getting shorter and darkness comes early. For the safety of our students, weโre reminding you that our building closes at 5:30 pm. We often find students hanging around to mingle with friends and then they walk to the bus stop alone. We donโt recommend this behavior and we are concerned about it.
With the holiday season approaching, we'd like to give you a heads up that our building will close at 4:00 pm on December 20th, which is the last day prior to the winter break. Please plan ahead to make arrangements for your student to be picked up by 4:00 pm on December 20th.

BE IMPACTFUL
Tell Chicago Your Story!
High school students: Wouldnโt it be cool to have your writing published in the Chicago Sun-Times as a guest columnist?!
Hereโs your chance to turn that dream into reality! You're invited to submit a short column about your vision for the future, based on the theme "Looking Ahead." However you interpret the theme is fair game โ whether itโs writing about personal goals, professional aspirations, the environment, diversity or politics, we want to hear your unique perspective.
Hereโs how it works:
ยท Submit an original, unpublished 525-600 word writing sample* in English or Spanish, now through December 31.
ยท We're accepting submissions from high schoolers only. All entrants under the age of 18 must submit a parental consent form.
ยท A panel of Sun-Times staff will choose guest columnists to feature.
ยท Columnists will have an opportunity to have their final column edited by a Sun-Times editor.
ยท Winners will each receive a $250 stipend and be published in the paper and online.
Learn more and enter in English at suntimes.com/chicagovoices or in Spanish at suntimes.com/vocesdechicago.

๐๐Shout out to Mr. Roy Pearson (Sw68p), Mr. Dudek, and the thousands of Lindblom alumni who contributed to the Lindblom History Project. ๐๐๐ฆ
๐๐พ๐ฆ
For the first time in the history of Chicago Public Schools, a high school has commercially published the first of a three volume micro and macro centennial history of the years 1919-2019 in Chicago, from the perspective of the former students, faculty and administrators who were in residence at Lindblom during those years.๐ฆ
๐๐พ Do you want a copy? Go to: bit.ly/LindblomHP_V1 The 457-page first volume (1919-1969), researched and written by the 92-alumni Lindblom History Project, is the first of the three volume history to be published. Volume II (1970-2019) will be published in 2025 and Volume III (select essays, pictures and charts looking back over the entire 100 years) will be published in 2026.
Attendance
Our week 13 attendance ended with 90.67%. As a reminder, students that are late to first and/or fifth periods will count towards their 5 tardies in a week. The attendance policy is included here. Feel free to email Mr. Hayes, our attendance coordinator, if there are questions about your attendance, bdhayes2@cps.edu.
