Superintendent's Update - 5.12.2023

Dear CPS Community,

We are less than a week away from 8:00 p.m. sunsets signaling longer days and warm weather that provides more opportunities for outdoor activities and enjoying the beauty of nature! Overall, sunsets are significant for many reasons and can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. Whether it is for their beauty, symbolism, or therapeutic value, sunsets can provide a sense of peace and wonder that can enrich our lives. Sunsets are often considered one of the most beautiful and visually striking natural phenomena. The colors and patterns in the sky can vary from day to day, and people often enjoy watching the changing hues of red, orange, pink, and purple as the sun disappears below the horizon. I hope we will be able to enjoy beautiful sunsets this weekend as the evening weather will be warmer these next few days.

This week was full of excitement with many events to celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in the schools. The PTOs and individual school “fun committees” had many special surprises planned throughout the week to show their appreciation for everything our staff does to support students, families, and the entire school community. Remember, it is never too late to send a note to your child’s teacher to show your appreciation. An expression of appreciation is not limited to one week each year!

I wish you a wonderful weekend and “Happy Mother’s Day” to all our wonderful caretakers in the community.

Yours truly,

Jay Lang, Ed.D.

Chelmsford’s Braydon Gray packs on muscle, shuts down opposing batters

There’s an old cliche in sports that says, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” That certainly is the case for Chelmsford High senior pitcher Braydon Gray. When COVID-19 shut down the country, Gray knew he was a pretty good pitcher who could throw a fastball 70 miles per hour. Please use the the Lowell Sun link to read more about Braydon's next steps.

South Row’s Nolan Walsh’s glove, ball saved by social media

Chelmsford little leaguer Nolan Walsh got a hit in his first at bat Monday night. But his parents — and much of his town — were still buzzing about the 10-year-old’s good fortune last week. "It is an amazing example of how social media can be used for good," his father Keith Walsh said. He's talking about a saga that began at Fenway Park last Wednesday night when Nolan wound up with a ball that Rafael Devers tossed into the stands. Please use the CBS News link to learn how Nolan was reunited with his glove and ball.
