Message from PDAC
Hello Families! I'd like to invite you to get involved in the Parent Diversity Advisory Council (PDAC) at your school. PDAC is a group of parent volunteers that are interested in supporting the District’s commitment to educational equity through a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We aim to have at least one parent volunteer at each school who is our PDAC Liaison; co-liaisons are always welcome! The Liaison’s responsibility is to help bring the DEI lens to the school and PTA, however they can. There’s a lot of different ways to be a liaison. Below is a summary of the basic responsibilities of a Parent Liaison.
· Attend (virtual or in person at the CEC) PDAC Community Meetings, generally Tuesday or Thursday evenings 7 PM - 9 PM.
· Share information about PDAC with your school community.
· Develop PDAC-related programming that meets the needs of your school community, in consultation with school leadership.
· Provide an “equity lens” when volunteering in your school community.
· Be willing to be an advocate for those with equity concerns.
· Some PDAC Liaisons may choose to start a local PDAC group at their particular school.
· PDAC liaisons will meet regularly with their principal or principal's delegate to be informed and/or participate in the work of their Building Equity Leadership Team (BELT).
If this work sounds interesting to you, please reach out to your Principal, PTA President, or email me at pdacinfo@gmail.com.
Thanks,
Robin Schmidt, Chair
IPSD 204 PDAC Leadership Team
Safety & Security Reminder
Student and staff safety is a top priority of District 204. We are continuously reviewing our safety practices and training our staff so we are prepared in the event of a major incident.
If an emergency occurs in our schools, parents will be notified through all contact information that is on file in ParentVUE (email, phone, and text message). A major incident is considered any event that would require first responder involvement from multiple agencies and includes students being evacuated from their school and transported to an offsite location.
If a major incident occurs at your child’s school, we will first inform you that an incident has occurred. When you receive this notification, the following steps should be taken immediately:
- Do not go to your child’s school – this interferes with the ability of first responders to effectively do their job and could potentially put you or others in danger.
- Locate your driver’s license or another form of photo ID – this will be required to pick up your child at the reunification site.
- Allow school and district officials to assess the situation and determine the best site to relocate students safely. You will receive communication as soon as students are safely transported to an alternate location and reunification details are available.
Be sure to update your contact information in Parent VUE to ensure you receive communications from your child’s school and the district. To receive text messages, you must have a designated phone number listed in Parent VUE for SMS messages. Please see the SMS Messaging Setup Instructions.
