Principal's Corner
Next week is National Volunteer Week. We consider our families to be much more than volunteers but I would like to acknowledge the many ways that you make BFPP an amazing community. From clubs to committees, newsletters to bulletin boards, free store to free books, and so much more your gifts, passions, talents and time benefit us all. Thank you!! Stop by Peggy's desk for a little thank you.
Warmly, Principal Kate

Horses Anyone? Join Us in May.
BFPP is partnering with a local organization called NW Hearts United to offer a unique growth opportunity for BFPP students in grades 4-6. NW Hearts United is an equine (horse) therapy organization with the mission to inspire relationships with horses and humans that heal, connect and empower. BFPP counselor, Erica Wolverton, is a trained equine therapist who will be assisting the group along with three other facilitators through NW Hearts United.
Equine therapy is not horseback riding, in fact participants never get on the back of a horse. Instead, participants create a connected relationship with their peers and their horses to: learn self-regulation strategies, develop positive ways of expressing needs, deal successfully with stressful situations, increasing compassion, providing a sense of purpose and hope. This is a rare and unique opportunity provided to BFPP students for this season only.
Who: 8-10 students in grades 4-6 (registration will be based on multiple factors, including need. You will be notified either way)
When: Wednesdays May 3, May 10, May 24, May 31 and June 7 (all five sessions are a required commitment) Time to be determined according to participant availability.
Where: Kelly Park Stables (at time of registration you can indicate need for transportation from BFPP) 983 Kelly Rd #7470, Bellingham, WA 98226
How to register: Follow this link to complete the registration form no later than April 19th. You will be contacted by Erica Wolverton if your registration is approved.
Questions: Reach out to erica.wolverton@bellinghamschools.org

Children's Art Walk
This year the art walk officially opens on Friday May 5th. Art will be displayed for 2 weeks (don’t know where yet!) After the show ends, we will announce through newsletter and social media when art is ready for pickup at BFPP.
Our art form inspiration this year is Collage. The theme is whatever inspires you. BFPP has (8x8") cardstock available by the copy machine for you to create your collage.
Guidelines for submissions:
1) We are able to accept ONE piece per student
2) 8”x8” collage or something else your student has in mind ( 12”x12” maximum)
*If your student has created a piece that does not fall within that description, please contact Lisa or Teresa.
3) We strongly suggest student’s 2D art be submitted in some type of protective enclosure (manilla envelope, file folder etc) with parent/guardian’s contact info on the outside. This will protect the artwork and simplify the process of picking it up after the show ends.
And last but not least:
4) If you would like, please complete an Artist Statement Card, with at least the student's first name and grade level. We encourage students to give a brief statement about their art - what inspired them, what it means to them. These are available at the bin near Peggy’s desk or we can email it to you via PDF. We will display these with the students' art.
**Submissions are due by Wednesday, April 26th to the Children's Art Walk bin near Peggy's desk at BFPP**
Questions? Please contact BFPP parents Lisa Spreyer or Teresa Halfacre.
