Dear Parents, Guardians, Staff, Students and Community Members,

As we begin a new year, January offers a moment for reflection, renewal and hope. It is a time to look ahead with intention, while also acknowledging the experiences that continue to shape our community.

This month marks the anniversary of the Palisades and Eaton fires, and we continue to reflect on the Franklin fire that occurred in December. These events deeply impacted many of our families, staff and neighbors. While each incident presented significant challenges, they also revealed the resilience, compassion and strength that define our community. In moments of uncertainty, we saw people come together to support one another, extend care and ensure that students and families had what they needed.

We continue to hold those who were affected in our thoughts, and we remain grateful to the first responders, educators, community partners and neighbors who stepped up during these difficult times. The resilience and unity shown during that time continue to guide us today.

The start of a new year also brings new beginnings. Across our schools, students returned from winter break reenergized, classrooms are filled with fresh goals and our educators remain focused on supporting every learner academically, socially and emotionally. January reminds us that growth is ongoing and that each new chapter brings opportunities to learn, connect and thrive.

As we move forward in 2026, our focus remains on creating safe, inclusive and welcoming learning environments where every student feels a sense of belonging and is empowered to reach their full potential. Through learning, school events and strong community partnerships, we remain committed to supporting our students and families in meaningful ways.

Thank you for your continued trust, partnership and care for one another. Together, we begin this new year grounded in resilience and united in our commitment to our students.

Dr. Antonio Shelton
Superintendent

Malibu Education Foundation (MEF)

Malibu Education Foundation: Supporting Our Schools, Together

The Malibu Education Foundation (MEF) remains dedicated to funding staff and staffed programs in Malibu’s public schools that go beyond what public funding alone can provide.

This is a defining time for Malibu schools. As the community navigates change, including new campuses, evolving programs and recovery from recent challenges, MEF helps ensure continuity and stability across all four Malibu schools. Support includes critical staff roles such as math tutors, instructional aides, athletics pathway support, visual and performing arts funding and community service resources that schools rely on every day.

MEF’s annual giving campaign is currently underway, and parent participation at any level matters. Whether a family gives $25, $100 or more, community support helps sustain these programs and strengthens MEF’s ability to secure additional grant and corporate funding that benefits students across Malibu.

There are also easy, community-based ways to participate. MEF’s next Food for Thought dine-out fundraiser takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 17, when dining at participating local restaurants helps support Malibu schools. Participating restaurants will be announced soon. Support looks different for every family, and every form of participation makes a difference.
