🌈 Happy April! 🌷 🌈 Happy April! 🌷

Dear Lions,

Welcome to a new month. It's hard to believe, but before we know it, we will be wrapping up the school year. Time flies! As far as the library goes, I have much to share. March was an active month. We celebrated the Gateway Nominees with a pizza voting lunch. Our Book Club enjoyed discussing Concrete Rose by Angie Thomas. Class visits from Ms. Hayes, Ms. Wilkinson, Ms. McCoy, Ms. Franklin, Ms. Bailey, and Ms. Goodson rounded out the month.

There are several monthly celebrations in April. It's School Library Month, Arab American Heritage Month, and Poetry Month. Look for book displays in the library that feature these celebrations and check out the resources below.

I'm looking forward to working with Senior Lit classes on podcasts and assisting Mrs. Franklin's classes with a dystopian Breakout Box activity. We can't wait to host Mrs. Hayes' Book Love Museum later this month as well. EOC testing will begin toward the end of the month.

Let me know how I can assist you with your academic needs, and have a great month.

Mrs. Jamieson

Sincerely,

Mrs. Jamieson

Join the April Book Club! We are reading I Must Betray You by Ruta Sepetys. This is a fast-paced historical thriller. Here is a brief summary:

In 1989, Romanian teenager Cristian Florescu dreams of being a writer but lives within the confines of a tightly controlled communist regime. When he's blackmailed by security forces to become an informant spying on his mother's client, an American diplomat and their family, he wagers how to use his newfound position against those in authority and joins the ranks of political dissenters within the country to an uncertain future (summary from Mackin).

🆕 Visiting the Library 🆕 🆕 Visiting the Library 🆕

We want you to visit the library! We are open from 7:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m each day. You may visit before school or after school to read, study, hang out, or relax. However, if you visit the library during class time, there is an extra step involved. You will need to sign up ahead of time by asking your teacher for permission and then signing up for a pass during the hour you wish to visit. This will help us know that you are accounted for and that you are expected to be in the library. You will sign up with the link below, which is also located on the library website and library Canvas course.

Library Website

The library website is your one-stop shop for all your library needs. Here you can find links to databases, announcements, book recommendations, Destiny, Sora, and more! Just visit fzelibrary.com.

Also, it is important to join the library Canvas course. You will see links to all the above, plus receive emails for different updates and contests throughout the year. If you wish to opt out of receiving library emails, just email me, and I will update that in the Canvas course.

Databases

We have access to high quality databases for research. These are available on the library website and Canvas course. Why use databases over Google? There are several reasons, but here are a few: no pesky ads, fact-checked and peer reviewed information, and ready made citations. Work smarter, not harder! Visit fzelibrary.com/databases to get familiar with our subscription resources.
