We can't wait to celebrate the Class of 2025! The doors will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday. The George Walton Academy graduation ceremony is a meaningful and dignified event dedicated to celebrating the achievements of our graduates. To preserve the respectful atmosphere, we ask that all attendees refrain from bringing items that could obstruct the view or disrupt the ceremony—this includes banners, balloons, cowbells, sirens, posters, “Fatheads,” or similar items.

AI is Here to Stay

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives, people are asking big questions. Will it take our jobs or help us do them better? Can it solve global problems like climate change? Or might it evolve into something beyond our control, echoing dystopian sci-fi fears?

To explore these questions, seniors were given this challenge: AI will likely play a major role in your future — now is the time to understand it and decide how it should be used.

Students conducted research, polled their peers, and interviewed experts. They then presented their findings to a panel—Mrs. Byrd, Mr. Terrell, and Mrs. Page—and their classmates. Each group made a claim about the ethics of AI. While opinions varied, one common theme emerged: AI is a tool, and its impact depends on how each of us choose to use it.

Summer work and supply list information is available for all grades. Please use the links below to access the information or find it in ParentsWeb under Resource Documents and also, on the website on Lower, Middle, and Upper School pages.

Senior Showcase

The Senior Art Exhibition is a yearly showcasing of our seniors' cumulative artworks they’ve completed throughout their high school careers. The works are diverse: ranging from traditional paintings and illustrations to design concepts and large sculptures - all displayed in the Upper School art hallway which is open to the school and any visiting friends and families. The collection will be on display through this Friday (May 16).

Congratulations to Hailey Wudtke, Ava St. Germain, Azalea Snell, Nell Chapman, Anna Mashburn, Kayden Owens, Keira Campbell and Jewel Miller!

Mr. Jameson commented, “These students have worked diligently to complete and curate their works on time for their end-of-year deadlines and the result is a vibrant spectacle of young talent which cannot be overstated. It is my joy and honor to guide them into their future artistic endeavors. This group leaves me very proud as an educator and I’m looking forward to hearing about what the future holds for them.”

Alice in Wonderland

Bravo to Genie Wiggins and her cast of Lower School dancers for an unforgettable spring dance showcase, Alice in Wonderland! The vibrant performances, whimsical costumes, and lively music brought the magic of Wonderland to life!

2025 Résumé Revealed

The 2025 Résumé yearbook presentation was a huge success! This year’s theme — MORE — came to life with a colorful, creative design: pink for Upper School, green for Middle School, and blue for Lower School. The Class of 2025 dedicated the book to Carolyn Phillips, and Rebecca Good received the Cole Award for Innovative Teaching.

The event wrapped up with a moving end-of-year video featuring a montage of photos and videos set to music, a touching farewell to the Class of 2025, and the reveal of the sold-out 2025 yearbook!

Yearbook adviser Liz Jones shared her pride in overseeing her eighth award winning George Walton Academy yearbook. Last year’s Redefining Red earned national recognition in the Jostens Look Book and earned a ‘Superior’ rating from the Georgia Scholastic Press Association with an evaluation of 692 out of a possible 695 points. This year’s book was selected for the exclusive Jostens Book Bundle — one of just 11 chosen from 15,000+ yearbooks nationwide!

Huge congratulations to the Résumé staff for another unforgettable year!

Three-Peat!

The GWA boys’ lacrosse team completed the “three-peat” with a dominant performance against Strong Rock Christian, winning the GIAA State Championship with a final score of 14-3.

Offensively, the Dawgs were paced by Sam Elvington with two goals and six assists. William Ferguson and Mason Kirkpatrick each added three goals and an assist. Tiedrell Ansley (2G / 1A), River Morrow (1G / 1A), and Rodney Starks (2A) all contributed multiple points. AJ Dillard (1G), Emmett Kirkpatrick (1G), Wyatt Akin (1A), and Ayden Concepcion (1A) all contributed on the offensive end. Even Goalie Marcus Porter got in on the offense, clearing the ball the entire field and scoring an acrobatic goal on the crease.

Defensively, the Dawgs swarmed the ball all evening, keeping Strong Rock on their heels and not letting them get comfortable. Goalies Marcus Porter, Robby Perkins, and Braxton Perkins stood tall in the net all evening, holding the Patriots to three goals on 23 shots. Defenders Ayden Concepcion, David Boozer, Jet Hammond, and Harrison McCarthy did a great job forcing shots the goalies were comfortable saving and forced 16 turnovers as a unit.

The Bulldogs finished the season 10 – 5, including a perfect 3 – 0 against GIAA opponents. The class of 2025 graduates earned 46 wins, the most for a graduating class, and three straight GIAA State Championships.

Strong Season

The GWA girls’ varsity lacrosse team finished as the GIAA runner-up for the season following a close, hard-fought 11-10 game against Pinecrest Academy. With 19 players on the roster including 10 who were new to the game – the team enjoyed an incredible 9-1 season and attracted new players that have fallen in love with the sport. Coach Jamie Lill commented, “The athletes that have come through the program have been such a joy and a blessing. I am extremely proud of all of them.”

Cultural Exchange with CEAM

We had the pleasure of welcoming exchange students from Mexico City here at GWA, and their visit was a wonderful experience. They were kind, respectful, and truly a joy to host. During their stay, we explored the Georgia Aquarium, the Botanical Garden, and the Zoo together. Each host family greatly enjoyed the time spent with them, and we are now very excited to visit them at CEAM and share time with their families in return. We wish all of GWA students safe travels as they head to Mexico!

Shadow Day

Last Friday, we hosted our second annual Middle School Shadow Day. This is an opportunity for our current fifth-grade students to shadow a sixth grader through the core sixth-grade classes, meet the sixth-grade teachers, tour electives, attend their first Middle School break and huddle, and overall get a feeling for what Middle School will be like next year. Students had a blast hanging out with our sixth-grade teachers and will hopefully feel much more confident when they walk in on their first day next year. Welcome to Middle School!

Kudos to Coach Sperin

Congratulations to lower school PE teacher and GWA wrestling coach Justin Sperin on earning his M.A.T. in health and physical education from Valdosta State. Justin is a GWA alum (2012) and has worked at GWA since 2017.
