For New OHVA K-2 Learning Coaches
2026-2027
We are so excited to welcome you and your family for an amazing school year!
Being a Learning Coach is meaningful, with fun-filled and sometimes challening days, too. So we want to do our part to make things flow as smoothly as possible for you! We appreciate the hard work that takes place in your home.
First, take a little time to look over the Welcome Site. This is the spot! Prior to the first day of school, your K12 School (OLS) login will direct you there automatically.
When your student logs in to login.k12.com on the first day, they will see the K12 Launch Pad. This is their hub to see classes, assignments, emails, and more. They’ll also find a Welcome Site widget right in their K12 Launch Pad, so they can easily get back to those extra resources anytime throughout the year.
Students in grades K–5 can access their K5 Dashboard, a simplified, age-appropriate homepage featuring Strider the Fox from the K5 Dashboard right in their K12 Launch Pad.
Once again, we’re so glad you’ve chosen to let us serve your student’s academic needs. We’re excited to get to know your family as you join our school community.
Let’s have a great year together! ~ Your OHVA School Team
Getting Started!
On the First Day: Log into the school system between 8 and 8:30 to see your student's Class Connect (Events) Schedule. This varies by student, but those live classes are the priority to plan the day. You should see an orientation offered, along with other live classes and lessons to do.
Who can you ask for help? Your CLASSROOM TEACHER is your champion for academic questions and your ADVISOR can support you with nonacademic questions and support as you begin OHVA. You can also visit HELP.K12.COM to search for HOW-TO info!
Orientation Info
Learning Coaches should attend Orientations, Students are Optional to Attend
Your first week is like what is shown below:
Attend ONE orientation session online your first day of school, or first week of school, depending on your schedule. These will show in your student's schedule, and are typically offered multiple times your first week. Check with your student's advisor for questions about orientation.
Orientations vs Welcome Sessions
Orientations are usually focused on school policies, taking attendance and give you an overview of the school basics. They are hosted by advisors.
Welcome Sessions are hosted by teachers to give you the specifics for each class or course.

What's the Daily Routine?
Tips for Staying on Top of Email - from Experienced Learning Coaches:
You're going to get a lot of emails from us! Some of these are very essential for your student and for your role as a Learning Coach. Here are some tips that veteran Learning Coaches suggest to keep yourself organized and not overwhelmed by email.
1) Create folders for your emails. It's up to you, but you may want to have folders for:
- Each student
- Each subject/course/teacher
- School Announcements, Newsletters and Policies
2) Create a "just for school" email account. Remember, you've got to update this in the school system in your account if you do this.
Should I purchase School Supplies?
Students can have the usual supplies like crayons, markers, pencils, ruler, folders, and scissors, and various household items. In additiion we recommend some printer paper. The amount of printing can vary by grade and personal preference.
Star Assessments
Your student's teacher will administer the Star Assessment 3 times in the school year. They will provide additional information. This assessment will give your child's teacher essential information to support your student academically all year long. For more details, read the Star Family Letter from your principal Dr. Debbie Wotring.
