WELCOME BACK STUDENTS!!
NEWS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings Roosevelt Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! I am thrilled to be joining Roosevelt Elementary this year, as well as the Yakima School District. Originally from Federal Way, Washington, I taught in Minneapolis, New York, and Issaquah before beginning my time as a principal in Port Angeles, WA. I remained there for 10 years before heading overseas to lead schools in both Panama and Spain. It has been an incredible journey, but I am thrilled to be back in Washington doing work that I love at Roosevelt. I have heard amazing things about the staff, students, and families of this community. Please forgive me with names initially, and never hesitate to reintroduce yourself in the first months - whether on the Roosevelt campus or somewhere within the greater Yakima area.
As I get to know staff, students and our families, I would love input from each of you. If you could take a few minutes to complete this brief survey, it would help me as well as our team in how we can best support your children and partner with you in this wild ride of education.
I look forward to meeting each of you in the coming weeks and months. Never hesitate to reach out or stop by to introduce yourself.
Take care,
-Joyce

NEWS FROM OUR COUNSELOR
Hello, my name is Lupita Mason. I'm Roosevelt's school counselor. In my role as a counselor I create an environment conducive to academic success by providing safe spaces where every child feels heard, valued and supported. I'm committed to helping students explore their strengths, interests and talents as these traits relate to career awareness and development. I help parents and guardians focus on ways to further their childrens' educational, personal and social growth. Roosevelt's school counseling program is comprehensive, using best practices to support student's needs and the mission of the Roosevelt school community. My goal is to provide social and emotional support to students and their families. I also recognize and respond to student's academic achievement.
Roosevelt's counseling program provides the following services:
- Individual and group counseling
- 504 plans for students with disabilities
- Mc-Kinney Vento case management for students experiencing homelessness
- BSET team meetings to support students with social, emotional or academic challenges
- Student transition from 5th to 6th grade
- Coordination of services with the community
I hope you take advantage of the many opportunities offered by our counseling program. Please contact me if you have any questions.
