Get WalkIN' April 24, 2026

Reviewing Goals Reviewing Goals

Remember that goal you made for yourself a few weeks ago? What kind of progress are you making toward that goal? If you are hitting barriers to reaching that goal, how can you overcome them? Now is a great time to review and revise your goal and make a plan on how to reach it. Life can interrupt your walking schedule, but there are ways to get back on track!

  • Think about ways to cope with interruptions. For example, you may not be able to walk in your usual way when on vacation, but you could use a hotel’s fitness facilities or walk around the city you’re in and see the sights.
  • If you get injured or ill, don’t abandon your walking goals. Instead, adjust your goal’s time frame. Come up with mini-goals to keep you on track while you recover.
  • If your goal seems out of reach, set your sights a little lower and adjust your mini-goals to stay motivated.
Check out this site for more details on how to reach your goal!

Pinpoint Your Ultimate Fitness Goal Pinpoint Your Ultimate Fitness Goal

  • Be realistic – Your ultimate fitness goal could be to be fit enough to participate in a competition on a set date or to do 10 laps of the pool. Whatever the case, make this goal realistic. Remember that most of us will never be world-famous athletes or supermodels. Think about what is achievable for you. Write down your goals.
  • Be specific – Don’t make your ultimate goal a general statement like: ‘I want to lose weight’. Make it measurable. Exactly how many kilograms do you want to lose?
  • Choose a goal that is meaningful and important to you, not to anybody else. For example, if your partner wants you to lose weight, but you’re happy as you are, you may find it difficult to commit to your exercise routine in the long term.

Celebrating Your Fitness Success Celebrating Your Fitness Success

Whether your goal is simple, such as doing 150 minutes-per-week of recommended activity or more complex, such as finishing your first triathlon, write down a meaningful reward before beginning your fitness journey. And make sure you follow through and reward yourself when you reach your goal.

DO give yourself tangible rewards. Tangible rewards are things you can hold in your hands or feel immediately, such as new clothes or a vacation. Some other examples include:

  • Concert tickets
  • A night out with friends
  • Spa day
  • Relaxing time alone
  • Going to a movie
DO celebrate your health wins. These come with achieving physical activity goals. It’s important to celebrate these less tangible, but very important rewards, because they serve as additional reminders of your success. A simple screening before and after your program will show you the progress you’ve made. You can measure these health rewards at your health care professional’s office or at a worksite wellness fair. They might include:
  • Healthier weight
  • Lower blood pressure
  • More-stable blood sugar
  • Better cholesterol numbers
  • Quality sleep
  • Improved muscle tone

DON’T give yourself food rewards. These can reinforce unhealthy eating habits. If you have worked so hard to get active and possibly lose weight, but then reward yourself with a high-fat meal or treat, you may undermine some of the healthy habits you have worked so hard to create!

Activity: Tell others, such as friends or family, about your goals. This will help keep you accountable and keep you thinking about your goals.

Walking Safety Walking Safety

  • Always walk facing oncoming traffic.
  • Use the sidewalk. If there is no sidewalk, look for a smooth, stable surface alongside the road. If there are guardrails, see if there is a smooth, flat surface behind the barrier where you can walk. If you need to walk on a paved shoulder, stay as far away from traffic as possible.
  • Be careful on bridges and narrow shoulders of the road.
  • Be sure drivers can see you. Wear brightly colored clothing, and if you walk during low-light hours, such as dawn or dusk, be sure you have reflective material on your clothing or walking shoes, and carry a flashlight.

Date: May 16, 2026

Address: 409 IN-14, Silver Lake, IN 46982

Join the Lilly Center for a wildflower identification hike held on the beautiful trails at Wildwood Acres Land Trust. The Hike will be led by Gavin King, the regional manager for ACRES Land Trust, where he'll teach participants how to identify local wildflowers and plants.

The hike will take place on easy trails with minimal hills; however, comfortable, close-toed shoes are recommended as there will be a lot of walking. The Lilly Center will provide light snacks and identification books to borrow during the event. Spring is in full bloom, so let's celebrate its arrival by learning how to identify its lovely blossoms!

This event is underwritten by Depuy Synthes, Zimmer Biomet Foundation, and City of Warsaw Stormwater Utility.
