What is Parent & Family Engagement?
Parent and Family Engagement is a partnership between schools and families to support student learning and success. It provides opportunities for parents and caregivers to be involved in their child's education through workshops, school events, and decision-making activities. It is an avenue for parents or caregivers to participate in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication with schools. The goal is to build strong school-family connections that improve academic achievement and create a supportive learning environment for every child.

The Importance of Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences are key to supporting a child’s education. These meetings provide a chance for parents and teachers to discuss a child’s academic progress, behavior, and social development. Teachers share feedback on performance and any concerns, while parents can offer insights into the child’s home life and ask questions.
Typically held in the late fall, these conferences foster collaboration between home and school, helping to identify any challenges early and allowing for timely support. Preparing questions about a child's progress or behavior can make the meeting more effective. In short, parent-teacher conferences help strengthen the partnership between parents and teachers, ensuring a more supportive environment for the child's growth.
Parents don’t need to wait until conference time to discuss their child’s progress. Our teachers and reading specialists are available throughout the year to address any questions or concerns you may have. Additionally, parents can monitor student progress through the LinkIt Parent Portal. Instructions for accessing the portal can be found in the resources section below.

Tawanka Reading Specialist Launches Unique Lending Library
Tawanka Elementary School Reading Specialist Beth Smith was awarded a grant from the American Federation of Teachers, allowing her to purchase hundreds of books for her students. With these resources, she created a special "lending library" for Tawanka’s 3rd and 4th graders. Students can select a book to borrow and return in a few weeks or keep the book by swapping it for a gently used book from home (with parent permission). This initiative fosters a love for reading while encouraging book-sharing among students!
NSD Title I Parent & Family Engagement Survey Results!
At Neshaminy School District, we deeply value parent and family input. Each Spring, families of students attending NSD Title I schools are invited to participate in a survey designed to gather valuable feedback. This input helps us evaluate and continuously improve our Parent and Family Engagement Policy and Title I Program. It ensures parents and families have a voice in the Title I decision-making process.
Highlights from the Parent and Family Engagement Survey:
Herbert Hoover ES families had the highest percentage of survey participation among Title I schools.
First grade families were the most active participants in the survey.
An impressive 96.5% of respondents agreed with the statement: "I feel welcome when I enter my child's school."
Thank you to all the families who took the time to share their feedback! Curious about what parents think at our Title I schools? Click here to view the survey results.

I-Ready at Neshaminy
i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s opportunities for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year.
i-Ready allows your teacher(s) to meet your student exactly where they are and provides data to increase your student’s learning gains. i-Ready consists of two parts:
The i-Ready Diagnostic - Is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s instructional priorities. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.
i-Ready Personalized Instruction - Provides students with lessons based on their individual skill level and opportunities for improvement, so your student can learn at a pace that is just right for them. These lessons are fun and interactive to keep your student engaged as they learn.
