Dear Oberlin School Families,

November has brought great momentum to our schools, with students settling into routines, classes heading out on enriching field trips, and winter athletics quickly approaching.I’d like to take this moment to thank the voters. We appreciate your support and engagement, especially as it relates to the future of education in our community. We are grateful for your commitment to our schools and for valuing opportunities that help our students grow and succeed.

Our next Board of Education meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025 and it will begin with a tour of Langston Middle School at 5 p.m. with the regular meeting to follow at 6 p.m. inside LMS's Media Center.

Here are a few other items of note:

  • Thank you to all who participated in our annual Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony. The Veterans Day Appreciation Ceremony is a yearly collaborative initiative between the Oberlin City School District, Oberlin College, and The City of Oberlin. We extend our sincere thanks to the individuals, organizations, and businesses whose generous support and contributions make this event possible each year. If you are still interested in sharing a photograph of your loved who has served/is serving, please e-mail the image to Mrs. Melissa Linebrink at mlinebrink@oberlinschools.net.
  • In case you missed it - we have a billboard! It's located on State Route 58 as you head into Oberlin! So far, it has been seen more than 100,000 times per the data provided by LAMAR! That is a lot of "eyes" on Oberlin! How awesome!
  • The District is in need of a crossing guard, before and after school, Monday through Friday. If you or someone you know may be interested in the position, please click HERE to learn more!
  • As November ends, we know December is coming - and along with that - the potential for snow. Now is a great time to review our Inclement Weather Policy.

As always, I am incredibly proud of our students and the outstanding accomplishments of our District. We look forward to more success and exciting news in the future.

Sincerely,

Dr. David Hall

Superintendent

Academic Challenge

The ESC of Lorain County’s Academic Challenge was held last week, and students from Langston Middle School had a great showing. Our 7th/8th grade team earned 5th place out of 9, and our 5th/6th grade team finished 4th out of 6. It was a strong day of brainpower, teamwork, and spirited competition, and our students truly enjoyed the experience.

PBIS at LMS

This school year at Langston, our PBIS focus will be on building strong attendance habits. Being present at school every day is essential for student learning, growth, and success. Through positive recognition, encouragement, and support, we will work together to help all students develop consistent attendance patterns. Regular attendance not only supports academic achievement, but also fosters responsibility, community, and lifelong success. Our current school wide goal is to achieve 95% or higher in daily average attendance, and weekly grade-level competitions help keep students in the game!

Food Drives

Oberlin City Schools will host a Canned Food Drive now through Nov. 25, 2025, to support local families during the holiday season. Each school building will have a designated collection area for donations.

From Oberlin Community Services:

"Thank you to kids and adults at the Oberlin City School District! They've been holding a continuing food drive over the past couple of weeks to help the OCS pantry. On Thursday mornings, District transportation and custodial staff deliver boxes and bags to us. Awesome!"
